Foreclosure begun on 2 of minister's churches |
|
A prominent DeKalb County minister faces foreclosure of two of his three churches on a debt of more than $6 million, according to legal notices.
The Rev. Wiley Jackson Jr., pastor of Gospel Tabernacle, is in danger of losing church property on Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain and on Clifton Street in southeast Atlanta. The properties are slated to be auctioned Jan. 3 on the steps of the courthouse in downtown Decatur, according to notices filed by SunTrust Bank.
In a phone interview Tuesday evening, Jackson said he learned of the potential foreclosures only when a reporter called seeking comment.
"We don't know exactly what SunTrust is doing," Jackson said. "Our notes are paid."
The bank's foreclosure attorney could not be reached for comment.
Jackson's home on Silver Ridge Drive in Stone Mountain also was listed among the foreclosure notices, but he said that mortgage was paid Tuesday.
