NBC/WSJ Approval: Bush at 39%, Congress at 25% by Joe in DC - 12/15/2005 09:51:00 AM
snip
And we learn the important nugget that seniors are CRANKY in the poll via Political Wire: Key finding: "In a period of broad-ranging public discontent, that among senior citizens stands out as most worrisome for Republicans aiming to keep control of the House and Senate in the fall... By a 65% to 19% margin, Americans age 65 and above disapprove of the performance of Congress; those under 65 are also negative but less lopsidedly, 58% to 27%. Moreover, senior citizens say by 47% to 37% that they want Democrats rather than Republicans to win control of Capitol Hill."
Seniors actually vote.

1. Seniors vote in disproportionate numbers. |
|
Let's make sure they can get to the polls. Offer rides, umbrellas, whatever they need.

3. Good idea! My mom is a senior citizen and she drives people to the polls! |
|
We really need to do our part and get involved with this election!

5. My Nana drives her and "The girls" to the polls every election day |
|
she decided to stop driving last round so she called up my uncle and he took them all. "The girls" and my Nana have seen it all, the youngest being 77 and they can't stand Bush.

4. I knew something was up when I went to see Good Luck and Good Night... |
|
My husband and I both were moved by how many older people were there. We went the first weekend it opened and people stood in lines for quite a while. It was something.

6. Well, they helped put Bush & the R Congress in office in the first place |
|
so the least they could do is vote them out.

8. That was before they realized that their party had been hijacked. |
|
They have no doubts about that now.

7. Most of my neighbors are old school Republicans |
|
and they are PISSED! I'm admittedly a close to center leftie. My older neighbors tell me I have the right idea in keeping my distance from the Republican party. They do not trust the R's any longer.

9. Well, the seniors I know are as pissed with Democrats as the Republicans. |
|
I tend to agree with them right now. Hundreds of billions for that fiasco in Iraq, almost nothing for seniors, for the city of New Orleans, for the poverty-stricken.
That is the uncomfortable truth right now.

10. These are deceptive statistics... |
|
Does the fact that 65% of seniors are upset with Congress mean that a similar percentage will vote against the incumbant? Of course not. An incumbants "job" is to make sure that his constituants are happy. The problem is that so many people that are upset with Congressional performance think it's someone else's elected officals that are the problem, not their own. I would be more interested to know what the percentage of people are that disapprove of their own Congressional representation.
