Damaged houses being seized in New Orleans?
I was on the bus today and meet I guy who is apparently going to New Orleans to help the poor hold on to their damaged houses. What he said is that the damaged houses are being declared "abandoned" and seized by the state for corporations, and that eminent domain laws are being used to seize damaged houses at tiny prices for corporate development. Has anybody heard about this, or could they point me to some good resources on it? Thanks.

1. I heard a housing activist from NO being interviewed
She was being interviewed on Pacifica's News on (KPFA SF/WBAI NY/KPFK LA/KPFT Houston) Indicating that people should get back soon to avoid just what you described. This was tuesday if I recall correctly.

3. So, they wouldn't let people go back to their homes
and now declare the same "abandoned".

14. Yes! So a town could seize property for developers.
Bushworld.

But legal isn't right, it's just legal. Laws can be changed.

6. I think the present tense may not be correct
i.e. they think this MAY happen or WILL happen but it is not necessarily happening NOW. At least, many people fear it may/will happen and are taking measures against it but, I have heard no confirmation of anyone trying it.

He seemed to consider it enough of a threat to be leaving school for the quarter to go help out though. I wish I had gotten more info.
