Did the Protestant leaders who urged budget reform help at all? |
|
I remember reading a small news article about it and then little else. Did it ever get picked up in the corporate media?
Background -- leaders from five different Protestant denominations (including Bush's own Methodist) called on Congress to fix the budget, that this one once again sacrificed the poor of this nation while providing for the rich.

...from the white house. I heard one declare yesterday that there are no moral implications in budgets. That they were promoting "something for nothing" selfishness. Also, that it says in the Bible that if you don't work, you don't get paid.
So retired and disabled people, including ourselves, parents and loved ones should starve and be homeless because that's what Jeebus would do.
Financing elective wars based on fraud must be God's work. God told him to do this, remember?
Funny how mass media evangelism just happens to support the goals of corporate cronyism and war profiteers.

5. It was Peter who said if you don't work you don't eat. |
|
I think it is probably best translated as "If you WON'T work, you won't eat." The passage, I'm pretty sure, was referring to the LAZY, not the infirm or retired.
As I posted in another thread, I'm pretty sure that the Apostle Peter would not be too happy that someone can work full time (or more) and still not be able to feed his/her family. I also seriously doubt that he would approve of people having to go hungry to pay their heating bills.
