Robert Duvall LOVES Dennis Miller!
Wolf Blitzer, in response: EVERYBODY loves Dennis Miller!

right, you jagoff

Duvall says, I'm NOT a Hollywood liberal.

he said he heard Miller recently, was surprised to "hear what came out of his mouth," but liked what he heard.

Also said he thinks that AS will be a good governor.

this, coming from a man who owns a huge estancia in Argentina, spends lots of time there, and SHOULD KNOW the evil heritage of that
poor country.

1. Duvall has made a lot of ignorant comments as of late
Cross him off my list of people to see in a movie.

5. I dunno....
I don't boycott artists based on their political views.

Yesterday there was a thread here condemning the Freepers for listing all the liberal actors they should boycott.

Duvall is one of the best actors of his generation. He's allowed to have personal views that I disagree with. it's not like he's a political activist out there fighting for the right-wingers. He has his own opinion on Dennis Miller - one I don't share - but I don't think I'd avoid his art because of that.

11. I agree
boycott bad actors and unfunny comedians, if he is an excellent actor or a funny comedian he shouldn't deserve to take a fall based on political comments, I personally think that is wrong. In an other view that is basically not hiring someone based on political affiliation.

15. Same here
I think part of being a true progressive is to not discriminate because of someone's views. I love his movies, but think he's pretty ignorant otherwise. I'll still watch them nonetheless.

Now if I ever decide to buy a Coulter or Hannity book then you can just all shoot me and put me out of my misery.

9. Well I do!!!!!!
After looking at how the Conservatves fight, a.k.a the Dixie Chicks, and most of Hollywood (slander/threats), I do not want to purchase the products of the conservatives!

14. *shrug*
It's WAY too much effort to try to determine the political leanings of EVERY artist before I decide whether to patronize his/her works. Freepers seem to think it's a worthwhile pursuit, but I don't.

Composers, authors, actors, painters, sculptors, singers.... do we REALLY need to keep a running list of all these people and their political views?

Similarly, I don't go out of my way to patronize artists because I agree with their politics. That would be just as pointless. We can appreciate art outside the context of the artist's political views.

7. I know
so many excellent roles

Lonesome Dove may have been the best made for TV movie ever.....because of him and Tommy Lee Jones.

LOVED the part where Ricky Schroeder got eaten by snakes, or whatever

8. He is an actor
that is all that should matter, if you like his movies or not or if you think he is unfunny. Political opinions are basically opinions everyone has, they differ. But when you watch a good movie how often does political affiliation of the actor runs through your mind? Me. never. Boycott the bad actors and the unfunny comedians, I don't think people should take a fall based on their political opinions.

3. I offiacially think robert duvall is a douchebag now
and why doesn't anyone in the press ever call miller on his phony 'conversion'?

oh right, dennis, it's because people on the left label their opponents too much (giuliani-hitler is his example) then that's why you're second banana to sean hannity, who thinks everyone to the left of mussolini is part of a communist plot.

becoming disillusioned with the democrats is one thing, altering your career-long political stances overnight to match a party line is another

12. Any man who makes a movie as beautiful as "The Apostle" gets lots
of slack in my book. Yeah, Ezra Pound was anti-semitic, too, but if a young poet avoids him for that reason, well . . . he'll miss the poet who created the language for 20th-cent. American poetry.

I wouldn't go to a movie just because some liberal star was in it. Neither will I avoid one because a conservative star i in it. There's so little of enduring worth, why cut off a significant percentage of it because of a difference in political beliefs? Who will be the poorer?

21. One large contradiction
He said most actors who speak out embarrass him - yet in the next
breath, he's praising Dennis Miller. Excuse me, I don't consider
Dennis to be an actor however he has been in many movies. Bringing
up Miller told me where his politics lie.

Duvall is a great actor but since I assume he supports Bush, he's not
a great man - maybe he's too busy doing the tango to realize how
this administration is killing our country along with our soldiers
in Iraq. Dancing away without a care in the World - how nice for
him. His remarks about steak in America versus Argentina really
was interesting, wasn't it?

20. He also hates Clinton
He said something about not being able to tango very well when he was a guest at the White House because he was between Clinton and the President of Argentina. Wolfe gave a knowing "I get what you mean" which I took to mean he couldn't stand them both. Wolfe, of course, must have known what Duvall's politics were before he asked the question and only asked him because he wanted to score some liberal-bashing points.

22. Duvall is a longtime Republican...
He lives in Virginia, and is the son of a Navy admiral.

As regrettable as this is, it does not take away the fact that he is arguably the finest living film actor.

24. I was under the impression that actors, entertainers, etc.,...
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 05:57 PM by FlyByNight
were supposed to keep their mouths shut regarding political opinions, so sayeth the right-wing political caste. Funny how that position tends to be overlooked when it's a Republican actor/entertainer (I know, Dennis Miller ceased being entertaining a while ago, but I digress...) expressing his/her view points.

And if indeed Mr. Duvall does spend quite a bit of time in Argentina (Dirty Wars anyone?), isn't that somewhat similar to what conservatives were pillorying Johnny Depp about regarding his (occasional?) residence in France?

25. I don't give a shit what Duvall says
I still think he's a great actor. The more important thing and the thing I really am pissed about is that Wolf Blitzer said "everybody loves Dennis Miller". Did he really say that? Holy moly! And this is supposed to be the network that freepers love to hate. God what a putz.
