Will we look back on this war like the Viet Nam war?

That's a quote from Oliver Stone's Platoon,it seems eerily like what is happening now.

The Viet Nam war made at least some sort of sense within the context of the Cold War. Attacking Iraq was utterly senseless.

3. No. not unless we have to go to a draft and

we continue with the fucked-up "culture" deferrements.

The root of the disagreement over Viet Nam is culture war. Those who had, for the most part, did not go. While this was true of lots of other wars and eras, I believe it was more naked in the Viet Nam era, more exposed, which has led to our current problems.

If we have a fair draft with deferrements based on real needs, we may avoid it. If we don't go to a draft at all, I fear the situation will never come up.

5. The Vietnam War actually allowed me to look forward on the Iraq

invasion. I didn't realize what was going on in Vietnam at the time, but when the * playbook was being played, I realized it was the same playbook. Probably for the same reason too - oil. I have learned way to much about how our government operates over the last 5 years. We have a very evil government - for the last 60 years. Maybe even 200 if you count the destruction of the Indian tribes.

6. They'll build a monument and forget the horror. Just like Vietnam.

Politicians and generals will shed crocodile tears over the dead and prepare the youth for the next slaughter in the name of the flag, and the dead "heroes" of Iraq, and rewrite history to say how it could've been won except for the "traitorous leftists".

And, the populace will wave the flags, sing the songs, shout "USA! USA!" and send their kids off to murder people.

It's been going on since Cain whacked Adam.
