4. A lot of US workers who are Dems will support this wall.
They are tired of jobs in the US going to illegal aliens, who depress wages.

9. I am so sick of this argument.
I have seen wages depressed in the Northwest without a single Mexican around because desperate people will compromise themselves for a job.

I'll tell you why the better paying jobs are going to the immigrants. It's because they are stateless people who can be exploited. If you want to change this bring them into your ranks so that you can all barter for better wages.

12. But that would entail supporting unions!
It's easier to blame the Mexicans. Nothing would prove the nobility of our cause more than engaging in the same sort of divisive scapegoating politics of hate that the GOP loves so much.

19. It would also entail unions
and all workers supporting each other. When was the last time there was a general stike in this country? Too damn long. The isolationism of many of the unions speaks volumes of what has been lost in this country for the working man and woman.

6. Putting up a wall to keep people out also keeps those on
the other side of the wall in. I don't remember the name of the Congressman who said this because things are moving a little to fast for me, but what he said was to think about it very carefully.

Bring them into your ranks so that you can all barter for better wages.

10. I think most US citizens will support building this wall.
They will say our priority should be keeping US jobs for US citizens.

13. I don't. I have worked along side Mexican immigrants....
in my situation, they made the same as I did,
and worked very hard. My employer was happy to have
them, and paid them accordingly. So, it can be done.
There weren't americans vying for these jobs either.

15. A lot of African-Americans especially lose out on jobs due to illegals
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 09:56 PM by David Dunham
Employers would have to pay more if there were fewer illegals available to hire at lower wages.

18. I work with many of them now.
And have for many years. They work so very hard at the crappiest jobs. They are no different than the poor European immigrants...our grandparents, that came here in the early part of the last century looking for one thing...survival for their families. I am an heir of that legacy, as are so many in this country. I would not have the life I do had they not come and worked hard despite being denegrated just like these immigrants of today.

I don't begrudge them a bit.

22. They had no choice.
How would you have swum the Atlantic? I haven't a doubt in my mind that if there had been a land connection, it would have been the same situation. Even so, they were all looked down upon and suffered bigotry, each wave in it's turn. It made no difference and to many today, it still doesn't.

And not all immigrants that many are ranting against are working here illegally. Everyone has the right to survive and feed their family.

24. Okay then...
feel free to go pick your own fruit and veggies and wash your own dishes in just about any restaurant yoy can name.

I for one would love to see all immigrant workers, legal and illegal, stop work for just a single day and see what people like you end up saying in the end.
