Bush knew what day the story was going to break in the Times.... |
|
That is why he decided to give his nationwide speech the night before, the mea culpa speech, the one that was supposed to be the talk of the town the next day. After all, he had never gone that far before. But he under-estimated the size of the tsunami that was about to wash over him.
Jonathan Alter reports that Bush met with the editor and publisher of the NYTimes on the 6th of this month. So it was almost two weeks before the story broke. Mr. Bush tried everything in his prop-ag arsenal to counter the story, but to no avail. He had the election in Iraq, which he portrayed as a great victory for democracy, but which may have been nothing more than powerball lottery ticket for the Iraqis. Then he went on his full-court press with 4 speeches in a week, with the Sunday night mea culpa being the finale.
He was asked about the story as soon as it broke. He said it was not the "story of the day". The election in Iraq was the big story. But he was wrong. Boy, was he wrong.

2. And with all of the advance notice about the NYT story ... |
|
... and all of his many resources, he STILL hasn't come up with the 'statute of law' that allows him to do what he did.
Gotta go -- for some reason, I detect the odour of something burning --and it smells a lot like *'s ass!

4. The story was reported on the 15th and he gave his speech on |
|
the 18th. He probably knew in advance of the printing, but he waited 3 days to address the nation.

5. The thing that I find hillarious |

is that HIS outrage is the fact that they exposed him and he wants an investigation of who leaked immediately. Imagine that, he wants an investigation.

Compare the phony outrage of "compromising national security" when its his ass on the BBQ grille to the evasive maneuvers and lies when national security truly was compromised by outing Valerie Plame.

11. Well, Fitz is a little busy... |
|
at the moment. Too bad * wasn't as outraged and as insistent on finding who was responsible for the Plame exposure.
This is what we have found out, I shudder at what we haven't.

Yep. I remember that. Such a little self-serving weasel.

6. Yup, one speech the night before, |
|
and another phony "press conference" the morning of. NYT are co-conspirators, and when the tickets to Leavenworth are being punched, hopefully Keller's and Sulzberg's will be among them

Rex Grossman sure did put a spark into the Chicago offense last night, didn't he? I'm a big Falcons fan, and also being a big Dawg fan, I remember what Grossman did at Florida with the coaching of Steve Spurrier.
Best time for the Bears for his return was the WORST time for the Falcons!

I think Vick was hurt more than he let on. After he got hit by Urlacher, it seemed Vick wasn't that interested in running. Had Vick been healthy, it would have been a much closer game. Having said that, not many teams will want to come into Chicago for a playoff game in January. Cold, cold, cold, cold. I was freezing watching it in the comfort of my basement. BTW, great turn of a phrase.

9. If any newspaper could have become renowned after 9-11 and led the |
|
nation in discovery and reform, it would have been the NYT. Instead, they chose to become culpable criminal partners of the most outrageous administration in our history. They have become what our founders warned us against. They are a sad crippled institution whose leaders and owner-stockhoders betrayed and neglected their mission and the country.
