3 Quit Gym Over Fetus Christmas Tree
http://www.thekansascitychannel.com/news/5579559/detail.html
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- A Christmas tree that a pregnancy counseling organization provided to a women's fitness center prompted three people to cancel their memberships because the tree is decorated with plastic figures meant to represent fetuses.
"This is insidious," said Kelly Jones, one of the women who quit Body Boutique last week. "This is in my gym."
She said the fitness center is a place to promote physical and mental health, not to confront a polarizing issue such as abortion

1. That's insane.
Completely insane. There's no other word for it. Just when I think things "can't be that bad" in other places, something like this happens.

2. I can't believe the gym allowed the tree to be there in the first place
Politically polarizing and bound to scare business away.

46. A tree in itself is not controversial
at least it wasn't until Bill O'Reilly said it was. See how his blustering has scared people away from putting up trees for fear of controversy? He hurts the very cause he is supposedly fighting for.

49. well since most women are pro-choice, and only 3 quit, it doesn't sound
like bad business at all.

It's not a bad idea for a business to promote women's health care choices. It certainly will appeal to the clientele of the similiar mindset.

that allows the promotion of anti-choice propoganda mixed with religious rhetoric is "uber-feminist"? Wow. I thought it was at the very least free market, perhaps even freedom of choice.

Um, the only "freaks" in this story are the ones who hung little fetus ornaments on the Christmas tree. Regardles of how one feels about abortion, that is just creepy.

"Lorinda Hartzler, co-owner of Body Boutique, said that when Birthright of Lawrence asked about providing the tree it said it had no political agenda and wanted only to assist pregnant women in their decision-making process."

No politcal agenda. Yeah, right.

33. What great taste! A fetus tree!
What a great way to celebrate the second most important Christian holiday, with plastic fetuses. Or is it feti? That's the spirit! Nothing says "birth of Jesus" quite like anti-abortionist sentiments displayed in a women's gym.

We abhor their "war on christmas" rhetoric. Why is it ok to turn a public holiday tree into a political statement or an advertisement? Why not just forget the tree, and leave brochures in the goddamned lobby?

Kansas University history prof's letter from his colleague in the Philippines--who is also in her 80s? It was on the front page of the Lawrence Journal-World today. They claim they do this sort of spying "to save American lives." Nonsense. There was no reason to suspect these two retired history professors of threatening American lives!
