The right is scarier all the time.
I listen to RW talk radio sometimes. And what scares me the most aren't the hosts. It's the callers.

The remind me of old folks in Italy who still have pictures of Mussolini on their walls. They crave the "security" of a "strong leader" to keep them safe from a world they fear. And they are only glad to give up their liberty to get that. These are the folks who can be relied upon to inform on their neighbors, cheer on cue at the rallies and turn their heads and pretend not to see when nasty things "need to be done."

Fascism depends on people like that. And they are getting more and more numerous in the United States.

1. Lots and lots of people with Daddy Problems out there
Add to that the countless millions who will do whatever it takes to avoid thinking for themselves, and you've got entire populations ripe for control, conformity and cowardice.

Read "Escape From Freedom" by Erich Fromm for a more in-depth look at what you describe.
