We need to keep pressure on to get a real investigation that re-establishes Congressional oversight AND holds Bush accountable--being accountable for purposefully operating outside the law.

The only process that will do that is an initial JOINT BIPARTISAN INQUIRY ON EXECUTIVE POWER followed as needed by a House Special Committee acting as a Grand Jury to assess and recommend as impeachable offenses findings of a pattern of criminal abuse of power by the executive branch.

13. Censure is made-up nonsense dating from the clinton impeachment.

It was invented during the impeachment of Clinton as an "alternative to impeachment." However, it isn't defined in the consitution and Congress has no legal authority to punish the president (it can only remove him from office - via impeachment.) So basically, it would consist of Congress telling dubya (and dubya agreeing) that he is a naughty, naughty president. It cannot impose any sort of binding punishment on him. It was a stupid idea during the Clinton impeachment, and it's an even stupider idea now because the crimes in question are so much more severe.

It is important to remember that Congressman Conyers was a young lawyer during the Nixon impeachment - he knows how this works.

I, personally, don't believe it when people assure me "Kerry is working behind the scenes..." "Dean is working behind the scenes..." -- but I do believe - "Conyers is working behind the scenes" *because* he is always working right out in the open.
