Bush himself says warrants are constitutionally necessary

"Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution."

- Remarks on the Patriot Act, April 20 2004

Orwellian doublespeak anyone? Now all of the sudden, the President has the power to suspend constitutional safeguards that he previously said were necessary. Now all of the sudden there's some sort of "legal question" as to whether this is ok.

It's Constitutional revisionism.

4. congress is unnecessary
Bush will dissolve congress as his next step, as congress places "unconstitutional" restrictions on the president.

6. What scares me most
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 02:28 PM by Lolivia
is that the once unthinkable is now completely accepted.

We used to say (by "we" I mean the country as a whole, not DU): torture is completely wrong, we don't torture and that's what separates us from the "savages."
Then we said: well, let's (re-re-re)define "torture." It may be necessary when you really, really, really want to.
Now we saw: fuck yeah, torture everyone

We used to say: secret prisons and gulags were what the evil, horrible, godless commies do.
Now we say: gulags are completely fine with me, President has to do what president has to do.

We used to say: you can pry my constitutional freedoms out of my cold dead hand
Then we said: well, the consitution can bend, it can flex, it's ok if the Pres plays with it a little.
Now we say: fourth amendment? what 4th amendment? I don't see no stinkin fourth amendment.

We used to say: we don't invade sovereign nations for a power grab......it just goes on and on

I'm in bizzaro world

That's what scares me maybe even more that * actually did this: that people are now completely willing to redefine (and give up) their rights, their morals, and their values.
