Start Watching For White Vans
Pretty soon you'll see them everywhere!

Don't believe me, try it!

It's a Psych 101 experiment to show how easily one can cross over from rational thinking to feeling paranoid.

I think that the government has not likely been wiretapping anyone for posting on a website like DU.

Now if a person were involved in political groups, it is possible that this happened.

In F-911, remember the "anti war" group in San Francisco? Mostly middle aged persons who got together and ate and planned small protests, and enjoyed each other's company. Yet there was a plant put into the group, a local police officer being used to spy on the group.

Government can be paranoid just like individuals can. (See Richard Nixon and his administration)

The Bushies are a very closed system, and seem to value secrecy and loyalty.

I'm sure that they have spied on their political enemies.

Maybe that includes DU.

But the posts on "clicks", and people in suburbans watching them, well it makes for intrigue, and it could be the government spying, but my guess is that it's more like the white van experiment.

Just my opinion

1. The "White Van" Thing Really Occured During the Sniper Thing
here in the D.C. area as police said the sniper was seen fleeing in a white van. There are 1000s of white vans, they are everywhere.

6. Pt on the flame retardant suit. Everyone KNOWS we are being watched.
It's obvious. Every computer slow-down, web page that doesn't load or virus detected is proof positive that Cheney...no, no...ROVE.....no, um um, BUSH HIMSELF is watching and mucking around with our computers.

besides, as I was told yesterday, if you aren't sure you are being spied on...you are not active enough in defending Democracy and the Constitution.

(where's that sarcasm icon......oh.....) :sarcasm:

8. The question is not whether you are too paranoid.
It's whether you're paranoid enough.

9. Well I'm a pretty paranod individual
and while I maybe don't have enough baggage to be worried about * wiretapping

I also will heed to the fact that in 1930's Germany, many people didn't feel they had anything to worry about either, but then found out they did.

I feel that we are living in 1930's Germany here in the US of A!

11. I think it would be incredibly boring to spy on me.
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 07:46 PM by wildeyed
Watch me drive the kids to preschool.

Watch me do the grocery shopping.

Watch me go to the gym.

Watch me organize a few voter registration drives and take part in peaceful protest.

Watch me talk trash about GWB to the other lefty moms at play group.

Watch me reorganize the kitchen cabinets.

Watch me drive the kids to ballet class.

The agent assigned would probably die of boredom. Most days *I* almost die of boredom. But honestly, after hearing about some of the groups and people they have targeted, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that I have been "looked at". This admin is completely nuts.

15. If you ask me, it's pretty odd for
three white vans to just park 500 ft apart in the suicide lane of a suburban state route for a 30 minute "break" just outside my pad--and yes, there's been clicks on the VOIP digital phone and clicks on the "land-line" style phone over the past three years -- the phone and cable box was located within our "lower 40 inches" of backyard and the utility workers would rarely get authorization for jumping the fence. Ain't it great being so popular with the PTB. I've also been charged a fee by a corporation so they could spy on me--straight from the horse's moutj--to see if I really live where I say, mow the grass regularly, and what?- use the fertilizer instead of warehouse it in the garage next to the naptha like dear old gramps did (YIKES).

Last night, I had a dream
I found myself in a desert called Cyberland.
It was hot. My canteen had sprung a leak and I was thirsty.
Out of the abyss walked a cow, Elsey.
I asked if she had anything to drink
she said--the
Only thing to do is jump over the moon
They've closed everything real down
Like barns and trophs and...performance spaces
And replaced it all with lies and rules and
Virtual Life... But there is a way out
OOOOOOO

Only thing to do is jump over the moon

I gotta, gotta, gotta, get out of here
It's like i'm being tied to the hood of
a yellow rental truck being packed in with fertilizer and fuel oil pushed over a cliff by a suicidal
mickey mouse
I gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta gotta find a way
to jump over the moon

Only thing to do
Only think to do is jump
Only thing to do is jump Over the moon

ONLY THING TO DO IS JUMP OVER THE MOON...
Moo with me! BTW - Hi Agent Mike!

16. Could be, but...
...sometimes what seems like a joke about paranoia turns out to be more than just comedy.

Back in 1984, paisley went down to visit her mother in Colombia, while I took the time to visit my parents in San Diego. Anyway, the two of us were literally writing every day to each other. A week or so later, when my folks and I were driving up to their cul-de-sac, there was a man in a station wagon parked by the curb -- if you knew the neighborhood, you'd know that someone sitting in a parked car there is something that never happens -- and watched us as we pulled into the garage, then drove away. Naturally, we all started joking about the letters to Colombia triggering the attention of the FBI and/or CIA, and that we must now be under surveillance. It was just a series of quick one-liners and nothing more. I don't think any of us took it all that seriously.

But, when we both got back home, strange things started happening to paisley's monthly bank statements. Sometimes they would "disappear" in the mail, other times they would arrive late, and either open, or showing signs of having been opened and then clumsily resealed.

I don't think it's inconceivable, considering that we had been active in anti-Reagan demonstrations and activities of CISPES (a group opposed to U.S. involvement in El Salvador and elsewhere in Latin America), and also considering that the Reagan administration was spinning the line about how Colombian drug trade was being used to finance leftists in Central America (now, of course, we know it was exactly the opposite), that the powers that be were examining her bank statements and cancelled checks to see if there was anything that looked like drug trafficking activity.

And, considering that Snoopgate apparently targets people with large numbers of overseas phone calls, and that paisley still calls her mother and other relatives in Bogota several times a month, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to learn that we've been targets of King George's current investigation as well. In which case, as paisley pointed out to me, we can only sympathize with the NSA underling who has to spend far too much of his time hearing about the latest health problem suffered by one of her many aunts.

17. If you see a white van ...
It's just me. You'll know me by my DU sticker. Make sure you wave! :hi:

Here's a funny story for you. One day, I remembered seeing someone taking pictures of my house. They were standing in the road, taking these pictures as I was driving down the road and into my driveway. By the time I got into the house and looked out the window, they were gone. I thought it was strange and discussed it with my then husband and mentioned it to my neighbors. I soon dismissed it as nothing, but never forgot about it.

Several years later, I met a woman in my town while doing some activism activities. We became friends. She told me she was a photographer and showed me her portfolio. Guess what was in among the pictures. Yep, the pictures from that day infront of my house, my car and me!

Seems she was doing a photo-diary of the town and my house is old and was a good study for her. She now is my room mate!

So, don't be too worried. There usually is a very good explanation of what you think might be happening.
