Hillary vs McCain or Allen -- compare their records
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 01:19 AM by Douglas Carpenter
I am not a supporter of Hillary for the Dem nomination. But, I think it is entirely possible that could happen.

This is a selection of a wide range of Interest Group Ratings -- Here I compare Hillary's ratings with Sen. Allen and Sen. McCain since one those two are likely possiblilities to become the GOP nominee in 2008

For the record -

I am NOT a supporter of Hillary for the nomination and I am certainly no friend of the DLC

1. OK so she has a good voting record
but she really needs to give some thought to her public pronouncements. She talks like a fuckin bushbot when asked about the Iraq fustercluck. Maybe she needs to follow her own instincts more and listen to the medium-sized dog less (he ain't the big dog as far as I'm concerned).

2. on that point I agree (the first one anyway)
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 01:20 AM by Douglas Carpenter
I wish she would be a LOT more forthcoming about the war issue. I just think some people are going way overboard on their Hillary bashing. She is NOT a Republican.

3. That is really useful information...thanks for posting it here!
I just finished posting my thoughts on Hillary...and I'm surprised at this record to be honest. She "sounds" much more conservative leaning in the press and when I hear her speak. I always think she's trying to impress republicans, not democrats.

5. I was a little surprised too
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 01:42 AM by Douglas Carpenter
but I was even more surprise when I checked Lieberman's record and discovered that on domestic issues he is more liberal than I realized. Again, less I be misunderstood, I have major philosophic problems with both Sen. Clinton and Sen. Lieberman especially regarding the war in Iraq and issues of trade and corporate power. But frankly that would be true of several politicians. But even the worst Democrats seem to be consitently more liberal than the most liberal Republicans.

Here I did a posting recently comparing both Lieberman and Clinton vs. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine -- a pro-choice "liberal" Republican.

I did this last week as part of another thread

I choose Sen. Collins because she is regarded-not as a moderate Republican-but as a LIBERAL pro-choice Republican; and almost certainly the most liberal Republican in the U.S. Senate

4. Uhm, I still like Hillary over the others in this race.
Thanks for putting this information up here. How about a Democratic primary Al Gore vs. Hillary Clinton. I'd like to actually see that so I can finally decide which one of those two I like best. This is fun.

If it is against Sen. Allen, she might win by default.

I mean, if you're really not a Hillary supporter, surely there are other random Dem senators whose records you could compare with McCain.

10. So you were just going with the assumption Clinton will get the nom?
I don't think it'll happen. 2006 has the potential to dramatically change the political landscape. And by 2008, Clinton may be irrelevant.

I'm just comparing records. I think Hillary has a fair chance of getting the nomination. But 2008 is a long ways off.

12. Actually I have posted several of these on (mostly on GD:Politics-
-mostly inside threads) comparing both Democrats to Democrats and usually using McCain as the benchmark since he is commonly viewed as a "moderate" Republican.

Here is a compilation of some -- all extracted from previous post of mine:

Now I will end with a 1996 quote from Noam Chomsky on why he was voting for Clinton's reelection and not for Nader:

from: Understanding Power by Noam Chomsky page 337

"I mean, I'll vote for Clinton, holding my nose--but the reason has nothing at all to do with big policy issues; there I can't see too much difference. What it has to do with are things like who's going to get to appoint the judiciary happens to have a big effect on people's lives....
They may be small policy differences when you look at the big picture--but remember, there's a huge amount of power out there, and small policy differences implementing a huge amount of power can make a big difference in people's lives....Okay, that makes a lot of difference for people whose kids are hungry in downtown Boston"

Of course that was in 1996. Since the first administration of Bush jr. it is clear that Dr. Chomsky considers the current Republican Party with its fundamentalist base and its influence on domestic policy and neoconservative influence on foreign policy to represent a significant departure from what had been bi-partisan consensus into a whole new and much more dangerous direction thus increasing the differences between the two parties

13. one more -- Hillary's record compared to Congressman Murtha's
Let me say that although Congressman Murtha is a staunch conservative -I am still all the more grateful that he spoke out against the war in Iraq. I wish Hillary would do the same. Still I think there should be a little perspective. I still left in Sen Allen and Sen. McCain to give some additional perspective.
