"There is a concern that the Internet could be used to commit crimes and that advanced encryption could disguise such activity. However, we do not provide the government with phone jacks outside our homes for unlimited wiretaps. Why, then, should we grant government the Orwellian capability to listen at will and in real time to our communications across the Web?
The protections of the Fourth Amendment are clear. The right to protection from unlawful searches is an indivisible American value. Two hundred years of court decisions have stood in defense of this fundamental right. The state's interest in effective crime-fighting should never vitiate the citizens' Bill of Rights."

9. When Ashcroft left, was there hint of a fissure between him and Bushco? |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 03:45 AM by Fridays Child
I don't recall anything like that but it's odd because almost all of Bushco's other departing officials had issues with his policies. Ashcroft, though, seems to have just quietly slipped away and disappeared from the public stage, altogether.

It's hilarious to see what ridiculous hypocrites all the members of the Bush Administration are especially when they get caught breaking the law so frequently.

Asscroft said it while he was still in the Senate! Because, of course, Orwellian powers in the hands of Democratic president are, well, Orwellian. In the hands of a Repiglican president, on the other hand, well, they're just patriotic.
This is a keeper.
