ISRAELI Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has promised US President George W. Bush he would try to lose weight after suffering a minor stroke.

A major question raised by his stroke is whether voters at the March 28 elections will see the 77-year-old Mr Sharon as healthy enough to run the country for another term. At the suggestion of his doctors, Mr Sharon returned to his official residence in Jerusalem to remain close to Hadassah hospital, instead of driving to his country ranch, more than an hour from the city, as he usually does.

The Prime Minister got a telephone call from Mr Bush shortly after he arrived home from 30 hours in hospital. "Allow me to give you some pointers," said Mr Bush, according to Israeli sources. "First, eat healthy. Second, work out, and third, after reading your busy schedule I must tell you, please spread it out. I got tired just reading it." Mr Bush told Mr Sharon he saw him as a partner in the pursuit of peace and the war against terror.

Mr Sharon promised he would try to curb his eating. He has not been able to overcome his own appetite, particularly since he lost the restraining hand of his wife, Lily, who died five years ago. The day before he was taken to hospital, he dined on hamburgers, steak in chimichurri sauce, lamb chops, shish kebabs and an array of salads, according to the Israeli newspaper, Maariv.

of the leader of a tiny little country with a smaller war than his to fight and no major natural disasters since the time of Noah.

9. Bush obsesses about health
He lectures overweight people all the time about excercise, etc. There was an economic advisor that Bush would always bug about it. When the guy wouldn't lose any weight, he started being on the "outs" with Bush. First time the guy screwed up, he was gone. I can't remember the guy's name, Lindsey maybe?

Doctor Says 'It May Be Too Late' for Sharon To Lose Weight
10:05 Dec 20, '05 / 19 Kislev 5766

(IsraelNN.com) Physicians have ordered Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to lose weight, but one doctor told a Hebrew daily that it might be too late for him to change his eating appetites. Yediot Aharonot reported that the doctor suggested the Prime Minister take up meditation and Tai Chi as an alternative to weight reduction.

Prime Minister Sharon is to turn 78 in February and is known for having a hearty appetite. A former aide said, " The man loves food. It will be hard changing him at his age, but we will do our best."

11. Hope he succeeds, otherwise Bibi may be back
The original shoe-polish-as-face-cream flack frontman for Likud and the Israeli branch of the neocons. Sharon may not be universally loveable, but he's done more innovating in conservative Israeli politics in the last few years than had happened in the previous 30. Bibi is a pouting shyster who'll retrench to the staunchest reductionist conservatism possible, make a huge mess of the economy and the security situation, and then look for bailout from his college chums in America. Not a desirable alternative. Another vain but incompetent neocon frontman, long on hot air, short on ability.
