Freep comments: four appeals courts ruled that Shrub had the...
I've been checking out different blogs and whatnot and one comment struck me in particular. This comment said that four appeals courts have ruled that Bush Inc had the authority to do wiretaps without a warrant. Of course, being a freep, they don't want to list the cases and ignore requests to do so. I've done some Google searches and didn't come up with anything but it wasn't as intensive. So if this were true, I'm sure someone here would know about it.

1. IT IS a talking point
and one that is indefensible. I have been challenged and I ususally bring up the 4th Ammendment.. They truly cannot defend it

3. Well that's what I brought up too
But the freep said that the 4th amendment doesn't apply to foreign wiretaps - only criminal law... :wtf:

2. Since nobody knew before Friday that Bush was doing it,
I sincerely doubt it.

I guess Bush was just lying when he said in his news conference that the NYT hurt national security by blowing the whistle, because everyone already knew we lived in a fascist dictatorship and were cool with it.

How dumb are these people?

6. And the NYT reported that some were purely domestic
even though Bush was supposed to have specified that one of the tapped be on foreign soil. So bringing up the foreign issue would seem to be bogus too.

8. Seriously. Appeal Courts in less than a week?
The Justice Dept can't work faster than the lawyers who haven't yet had time to round up a case! Appeals Court Judges? Guess the tooth fairy filed an appeal to rulings in cases which haven't been filed in the first place?

When the hell are we gonna start teaching civics and government in schools again? Seems a huge (or even a hugh) segment of the population had not got a friggin clue how any of it works.

4. First I've heard of it...
Sounds like total bullshit.

No mention of that from any of the many pundits I've heard today.

because they don't exist.

7. United States v. Truong Dinh Hung, 4th Cir. 1980
This is the case everyone seems to quote. I've never read it so I haven't a clue as to whether it says what the freepers say it does.

11. You have to realize they wallow in elephant feces, it gets
absorbed in the skin and carried to their brain.

Nothing has given bypass authority to circumvent the court by presidential perogative. Nothing.
