Anchorage Daily News

WASHINGTON - Around the Capitol, Sen. Ted Stevens is known as a man with a temper, a reputation he fuels by donning his Incredible Hulk tie for political battle.
"When I see the Hulk tie on Ted Stevens, I know he's pumped up," said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, who described the Alaska Republican as "tenacious, pugnacious and ferocious."

With the bulging green man-monster displayed down his shirtfront, Stevens yells at colleagues who block oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He shouts at those who would cut Alaska projects from federal spending bills.

Ya gotta read that article. It is too goddamn funny! And I right here and now call on DU after tonight to all reach out for christmas and send him a new tie, maybe something with rattles and pacifiers on it!!!!!

3. why is Alaska carrying this guy?
He's a total moron and he's very unprofessional. If screaming and yelling was what it took to become a government employee then that line is long and wide.

That smarmy spoiled little screaming bastard needs to take up knitting.

4. I remember when
the Daily Show ran a clip of him hollering because someone suggested taking the money from his bridge to nowhere and using it to help Katrina victims- he was literally screaming like a child.
What a tool. If he was my rep I'd be so pissed.

He's been down there much, much too long. There was a time (quite a while ago) when I had a certain amount of respect for him because he did fund a lot of good projects here in Alaska, which had seriously lacked infrastructure when he first came to office in 1968, he did good things for our Native population and so on. He (or his office) even went to bat for me personally in 1991 with HUD in Washington DC when I was sold a HUD house with a bad roof, but this ANWR thing has just totally addled his brain. It seems like it's all he can think about -- that and the stupid bridges. Maybe he's just too old. I think he should retire and come back home to Alaska and let some new blood take over. I'm sure we could come up with someone capable up here to take his place, hopefully a Democrat like Tony Knowles who lost a squeaker election to Lisa Murkowski last year. We definitely need more balance.
