Dear Gov. Dean -- The rabid dogs are cornered …
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 09:00 AM by understandinglife
22 December 2005 (# 17)

Through, from his coronation in January, 2001, until September 11, 2001, we have ample evidence that Bush and his neoconster gang did everything they could to avoid knowing about what the terrorists might be planning – excepting Ashcroft who decided it best that he not fly commercial aircraft to his fishing hole (http://tinyurl.com/zi2x).

But, Terror, TERror, TERROR … became the incessant neoconster mantra ever since 9/11.

Interestingly, Bush and the neoconsters have done everything possible to ensure that more people in the world hate us today than certainly was the case on 9/11 or the early days after that tragedy. Why? Because that is an essential strategic component of their imperialistic scheme for inciting support for perpetual war. And, it has worked exceedingly well.

However, too many folk have come to realize that what Kovner’s American Enterprise Institute (AEI) is really all about is the creation of a totalitarian militaristic America that ravages the world’s resources under age-old gimmick of imperialists -- spreading something of absolute value. For the neoconsters, it’s spreading “democracy.”

The elegance of the terror scam is that it provides a cheap-drunk’s cocktail of fear and hatred – like 12 % alcohol beer. When you have 24/7 broadcast media as your eager distributor (ratings, $$$$, ratings, $$$$ …), you can scare a lot of people, anytime, all the time.

Had we had vigorous leadership from a truly patriotic Congress, Bush would have been held in check, and he would not have succeeded in any of the criminal enterprises he has launched since 9/11. Many of those criminal enterprises are now fully exposed – fraudulent activity in Florida and elsewhere in the 2000 and 2004 National election; using forged documents and other ‘fixed’ intelligence to deceive Americans and our allies; waging war of aggression on Iraq; conducting illegal renditions as part of a global torture program; willfully destroying American intelligence assets by the outing of a CIA NOC; spying on American citizens, to name a few.

As Kristen Breitweiser wrote recently in “The King’s Red Herring”:

President Bush has admitted to carrying out surveillance on U.S. citizens in the interest of national security. He unabashedly admits to doing it. He offers no apologies. With his bellicose swagger, he once again uses 9/11 as his justification for breaking our constitutional laws. The President's justification of 9/11 to carry out such surveillance begs a closer examination.

President Bush should be stopped in his tracks with regard to his use of 9/11 scare tactics to circumvent constitutional laws that are meant to protect U.S. citizens. His justification for doing so -- the inability to conduct surveillance on the 9/11 hijackers -- is a red herring. History will bear out the truth -- our intelligence agencies held a treasure trove of intelligence on the 9/11 hijackers, intelligence that was gathered through their initially unencumbered surveillance. President Bush should busy himself by investigating why that information was then stymied and not capitalized upon to stop the 9/11 attacks.

Yes, they had much information and it is obvious that it was not effectively used. However, what needs to be scrutinized, beyond the obvious is, oddly, best summarized by Howard Fineman in his article on MSNBC from December 21, 2005:

WASHINGTON - In the first weeks and months after 9/11, I am told by a very good source, there was a lot of wishing out loud in the White House Situation Room about expanding the National Security Agency’s ability to instantly monitor phone calls and e-mails between American callers and possible terror suspects abroad. “We talked a lot about how useful that would be,” said this source, who was “in the room” in the critical period after the attacks.

Well, as the world now knows, the NSA — at the prompting of Vice President Cheney and on official (secret) orders from President Bush — was doing just that. And yet, as I understand it, many of the people in the White House’s own Situation Room — including leaders of the national security adviser’s top staff and officials of the FBI — had no idea that it was happening.

As best I can tell — and this really isn’t my beat — the only people who knew about the NSA’s new (and now so controversial) warrant-less eavesdropping program early on were Bush, Cheney, NSA chief Michael Hayden, his top deputies, top leaders of the CIA, and lawyers at the Justice Department and the White House counsel’s office hurriedly called in to sprinkle holy water on it.

Which presents the disturbing image of the White House as a series of nesting dolls, with Cheney-Bush at the tiny secret center, sifting information that most of the rest of the people around them didn’t even know existed.

Bush spent the month of August, 2001, clearing brush while folk “were running around with their hair on fire” because of signals of an impending terrorist attack.

Throughout that summer, we now well know, Tenet, Richard Clarke, and several other officials were running around with their "hair on fire," warning that al-Qaida was about to unleash a monumental attack. On Aug. 6, Bush was given the now-famous President's Daily Brief (by one of Tenet's underlings), warning that this attack might take place "inside the United States." For the previous few years—as Philip Zelikow, the commission's staff director, revealed this morning—the CIA had issued several warnings that terrorists might fly commercial airplanes into buildings or cities.

And now, we learn today, at this peak moment, Tenet hears about Moussaoui. Someone might have added 2 + 2 + 2 and possibly busted up the conspiracy. But the president was down on the ranch, taking it easy. Tenet wasn't with him. Tenet never talked with him. Rice—as she has testified—wasn't with Bush, either. He was on his own and, willfully, out of touch.

Bush returned from vacation and we have zero evidence that he, all refreshed and sun-tanned, paid attention. On September 11, 2001, among other tasks in his busy schedule, he listens to children read to him while the single largest terrorist attack, ever, on the Continental United States is underway, and then he does a 30 min photo-op with the children, and, eventually, climbs on AF1 and hides.

A few days later, Bush and Cheney ferret themselves away and begin scrutinizing illegally obtained surveillance information on WHOM???

During the past twelve months, due largely to the efforts of a large number of motivated American citizens; Mr. Patrick Fitzgerald and his team; a few courageous leaders like Congressman Conyers, members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Senator Barbara Boxer, and others; and, former members of the military and intelligence community, the truth is being uncovered.

The pace of that process of exposing the vast crimes of Bush, Cheney and their fellow neoconsters is accelerating and folk across the political spectrum are recognizing that the crisis we are now fully engaged is Constitutional and threatens the very essence of America. As a result, the rabid neoconster dogs are cornered and the brazen behavior of Bush and Cheney, of Rumsfeld and Gonzales, of Bolton and Melman, of … since December 16, 2005, makes it clear that they are becoming desperate.

Since their meme is terror, terror, terror … coupled with traitor, traitor, traitor … for those who challenge their lawlessness -- they may have already realized that a dose of actual terror could be the only thing that will frighten enough citizens to give them the opportunity to complete their destruction of the Constitution and establish their totalitarian oligarchy.

They all know that their future is an endless series of courtroom appearances, for both civil and criminal trials, and likely incarceration for extended periods, unless they prevail in subverting all mechanisms to hold them accountable. Thus, we should be prepared to expect that they are going to be even more lawless and politically vicious until they are stopped. All available empirical data supports that hypothesis.

Therefore, it is essential that the DNC and affiliated organizations build a relentless media and legal campaign. Every American must be informed about the PNAC agenda and the other imperialistic and tyrannical schemes hatched by AEI -- who the people are, and what their anti-American mission is. Every American must be informed that if a terror strike occurs it is the result of Bush and Cheney’s failure to protect us despite the fact that they have been illegally spying on us and monitoring vegans, Quaker peace activists, … .

All legal mechanisms must be used to bring them to trial for violations of FISA and other statutes. All legal mechanisms must be used to hold accountable those members of the press and their corporate employers who have willfully propagandized or/and had knowledge of illegal activity on the part of Bush and his gang and failed to report it.

Our Republic is under attack from those who have sworn an Oath to protect it and they are using our tax dollars to wage the destruction of our Constitution, illegal war, torture, and other crimes against humanity and the viability of the planet.

“We the People …” must do our duty and stop them – or, we are “them.”

Thank you for your continued leadership,

Peace.

4. "You cannot tell me that that the possible threat of terrorism today ...
... arouses more fear and a more pressing need for the suspension of civil liberties and the abdication of Congressional responsibility than the threat of total nuclear annihilation did at the height of the Cold War.

Much, much more at the link:

ReddHedd, as always, offers a poignant insight. I remember, throughout much of my childhood, the "first friday of the month" sirens and the "drills" we did as school children and the nightmares from having watched black/white footage of nuclear detonations -- I was truly terrified. I would have been way more so if I had thought McCarthy and Nixon and J Edgar were spying on my parents ....

If this Nation acted in all matters within the scope of existing law, we'd all have much less to fear. And, we'd have way fewer enemies because we wouldn't be seen as the brazen, rogue super-power that currently is terrifying just about everyone on the planet with sense enough to realize just how wacko-lawless Bush, Cheney and the neoconsters are.

Peace.

7. Funny, I just used the term cornered rats for them. My fear is they will
use MIHOP to say "see this is why we need to spy on our own citizens". It was wrong when Nixon did it and it is certainly wrong now. These are dangerous rats we are cornering. The sooner they are brought to justice, the better!

8. Either we stop them now, peacefully and legally or...
...we will have to stop them violently in a (un)civil war.

WORK PEOPLE!!!

Pile on the pressure. LTTE (Letters to the Editor) of the local paper. Bumper stickers and T-Shirts. Call your congress-critter whether Rethug, Dino or Democrat and demand an (at least)investigation or Impeachment (I'm trying to keep the powder dry, really, but the temptation is just so...)

NOW IS THE TIME FOR ALL GOOD PEOPLE TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR COUNTRY...

It isn't just a typing exercise anymore!!!

Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 07:51 PM by troubleinwinter
Indeed. On 9-11, he sat there and did nothing but look blank when he heard we were under attack.

We are better and smarter than he is, and "We the People" must ACT to defend our Republic from these bloodsucking rabid neoconster dogs.

I well remember the days of the nuclear attack drills, Nixon's "Enemy List", and his spying on and infiltration of peaceful groups and individuals. I have been suffering through deja vu a lot, lately.... but those old days seem tame in comparison to the present. We feared a nuclear attack then, I fear my own government now.

Thank you again, UL.
