If it's Byrd then maybe he'll be Prez if we get Bush & Cheney & Condi thru impeachment and Hastert thru Abramoff? ;-)

(Who knows if Hastert is involved with Abramoff. I'm just saying if.)

1. For it to be Byrd Dems would have to recapture the Senate.

3. Stevens retiring? Hell, given some of the tantrums he's been
throwing, I'm expecting the man to pop a gasket on the floor of the Senate any day now. I still think McCain's planning on being the last man standing.

4. Stevens won't retire. He likes wealth and power too much
just to hand it all over. Besides, he's got to keep the business flowing in the direction of his young'uns.

6. Was he serious last night when he said good-bye to the Senate
at the end of his rant? I haven't seen anything about it, but it sure sounded like he was saying Hasta la vista, baby.

8. Here's some Senate trivia for ya
If Al Gore were to be elected to the Senate again, he would automatically be deputy president pro tempore.

Born: Feb 18, 1927. Next would be Single-bullet-theory boy and then Richard Lugar.

Byrd has been president pro tempore three times already

13. Republican senators in order of seniority
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 12:19 PM by quaoar
Ted Stevens of Alaska, Pete Domenici of New Mexico, Orrin Hatch of Utah, Richard Lugar of Indiana and Thad Cochran of Mississippi.

So, if Stevens retires and the GOP keeps control of the Senate, Domenici becomes pro tem.

After Byrd, Ted Kennedy is the most senior Democrat.
