I attended a senior citizens christmas dinner last night
I looked around the room, these were the people who had fought world war two, who had lived through the depression and cold war. Noone there had much beyond social security to live on, and as I looked around the room it struck me that these are the people who will suffer much in the coming year.
After thw budget cuts yesterday they will have more to bear, their medicare and medicaid have already been slashed. The center where they live can no longer provide them with weekend meals because of cuts to our state budget.
I wish that the people in congress had went to such a place gefore they voted to cut the legs out from under these people so that the wealthy can have more.
Someday, a fitting punishment would be for * and all of the reptiles who voted against the elders to work in low income nursing homes.

6. They have their own apartments
and can fix meals there, it's the communal dining is shut down, and the meals on wheels program has suffered the same fate.

4. I attended a Christmas dinner last night
And what would you want to bet that all the reptilian politicians who voted for these draconian measures consider themselves to be good upstanding Christians? These people are truly shameless.

9. I had a "christian" RWer tell me to my face at our holiday shindig
that the economy is doing better and that things are better for every one.
At the same time he's swilling beer and wine, he's calling a guy he used to know that smokes weed a hippy. I can't be around folks like that too long.
I either want to play with their minds or do bodily damage. Or both.

Welcome to DU, nancyr!!! :toast:

5. I'm a senior---are you sure they were all poor? I have many
friends who attend senior activites and dinners at the local senior center yet they do it for social reasons, not poverty.

How would you know they only had social security to live on?

I certainly agree with you that letting any senior go without is unconscionable, but many seniors do okay.

10. my grandparents do that
yeah they don't depend on social security and go to the senior center so they don't have to cook and to socialize... its a pretty cool thing....

but the reality is that a great number of senior citizens are in that situation while some luckily are not.

11. It was at a low income senior housing center
My wife works as a home health aid and has many people there that she takes care of. personally, I don't know what they have, but they can't live there if they have means.

13. I think the saddest thing about some seniors that I know is that
they have family and rarely see them.

I am blessed but some are not so fortunate.

8. They are not human
You have to have some sense of decency, moral fiber and compassion to feel bad for low income seniors. The repukes have none of those qualities.
