Bush Says Kim Let His People Starve, Shrink

By Steve Holland
CANBERRA, Australia (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) Wednesday was unequivocal in denouncing North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat (news - web sites), but praising close allies such as Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

Kim, he told reporters, has "let his people starve and shrink in size" and said it will require patience and allied resolve to coax an agreement out of him giving up nuclear weapons program.

1. I'm completely lost..."shrink in size"?
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 10:43 AM by Richardo
WTF could possibly be going on inside that pointy little head?

Here's a clue:

Bush was in an expansive mood  on the flight from Indonesia to Australia, wearing an Air Force One flight jacket, snacking noisily on a butterscotch sweets  and chopping the air for emphasis.

12. *'s actually got a bit of truth behind the shrinking bit....
it comes from recruitment statistics from the North Korean army. Their 18-year old army recruits have been getting smaller over the years. Obviously a result of being chronically undernourished.

24. Not about population....
"Any leader that starves his people is -- you can't respect anyone who would let his people starve and shrink in size because of malnutrition," he said. "It's a sad, sad situation for the North Korean people."

I think this stature-related, not population-related....

4. Goes along with his "pygmy" remark
<"Any leader that starves his people is -- you can't respect anyone who would let his people starve and shrink in size because of malnutrition," he said. "It's a sad, sad situation for the North Korean people.">

Yeah, he's all choked up about after breaching the Agreed Framework and cutting off fuel deliveries in violation of the international agreement. American humanitarian food supplies were also cut off. It's the neo con "tigtening the noose" strategy.

Only the American aerospace countries may export missile technology.

5. He's talking about the fact that...
...because of the chronic malnutrition in North Korea, especially among children, the average North Korean is approx. 4-7 inches shorter than the average South Korean. I remember reading this in an article written by a N. Korean defector. What a monstrous system of government.

..insulting the party publically while trying to come to an agreement on a key issue on an International basis.

DOES NOT WORK.

Would someone send shrub a clue? Next we'll be attacking North Korea because our ever-so-tactful negotiations fell through..

20. I don't think it's remotely funny to laugh about
...the human rights situation in North Korea. Hundreds of thousands of people have starved in that wretched country over the last 10 years and many millions more have been malnourished -- depriving them of the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, emotionally. Life in that country is a living death, and it's nothing to laugh about.

25. 10 Years? Try 49 Years!
The causes of the famine and economic meltdown in the DPRK go far, far back. Basically the whole country was going to crash and burn spectacularly from the time Kim Il Sung took over and branched out into his xenophobic, totalitarian cult of personality rule.

Famine and economic ruin are only two of the more recent results of rule by Juche. Four generations of North Koreans are almost completely functionally brainwashed to the point to where they cannot envision of an outside world beyond the confines of North Korea.

I wasn't making fun of the human rights situation. I was making fun of tripe that passes for "media" in North Korea and our own leader's choice of words.

26. but they have universal health care!!!
Believe it or not I actually saw video of someone at a S.F. anti-Iraqi-war protest march defending Kim's rule of North Korea because at least "everyone has a job and everybody has free health care." This was one of the A.N.S.W.E.R. sponsored marches. It just goes to show the sort of unthinking, uncaring idiots which that group attracts.

27. Hmmm...
I guess it's a pretty large tent. I didn't see that video but I attended two of the three ANSWER rallies in SF and was impressed with the solidarity of the crowd. I saw everything under the sun there including Freepers proudly protesting the protesters. Yes, the protest marches attract all types, but I question your broad paint brush, and the agenda of the video producers. Did Freerepublic produce that video with a grant from the Heritage Foundation?

29. ummmmmm........
The video in question was copyrighted by ProtestWarrior.com which some may well characterize as a bunch of freepers. The do identify themselves as a group organized to ridicule the left.

That being said, I really doubt that the video of the nutjob defending North Korea was anything but legimate. She may not have been representative of the crowd as a whole but she was not out of line with the sponsoring organization. As another poster has already noted ANSWER has publicly defended the regime in North Korea in the past.

I have to say that I'm amazed that so many on the left were willing to participate in rallies sponsored and organized by ANSWER. Were the Ku Klux Klan to sponsor an anti-war rally would many liberals and progressives be willing to participate? I doubt it; and yet, although ANSWER defends regimes around the world that are every bit as virulent as the Klan, people who claim to be enlightened and socially aware turned out in droves for the ANSWER events.

I just don't get it.

28. I don't know if I would have been able to restrain myself.
What an idiotic position. I had read somewhere that ANSWER was a front group for the Workers World Party or something like that, and that this group actively defended North Korea for resisting "US imperialism." Blech.

15.  * and the rest of the Repubs permit Hallieburton to starve
the US military. Since most of their body fat is gone,
now their bodies are cannibilizing itself by tearing
down muscles.

Add to that not enough *good* water.....

I'd like to see Before and After photos of their upper
bodies, arms, legs and thighs.

16. Bush Goes Off His 'Fast'
What else has Bushboy gone off of...rocker, wagons?

"Bush was in an expansive mood on the flight from Indonesia to Australia, wearing an Air Force One flight jacket, snacking noisily on a butterscotch sweets and chopping the air for emphasis."

and this from the forthcoming The Faith of George W. Bush (Tarcher/Penguin)by Stephen Mansfield

Mansfield also reports: "Aides found him face down on the floor in prayer in the Oval Office. It became known that he refused to eat sweets while American troops were in Iraq, a partial fast seldom reported of an American president. And he framed America's challenges in nearly biblical language. Saddam Hussein is an evildoer. He has to go."

from The Widening Crusade
by Sydney H. Schanberg

Say it sin't SO...last time I looked American troops were in Iraq?
