Dick Cheney Is Right!
Edited on Thu Jul-17-03 04:19 PM by Skinner
Of course we shouldn't just focus on those sixteen puny words in the State of the Union Address. Instead, I decided to focus on the President's laughably-scripted press conference on the eve or war. Here's what I've got so far, and please do help fill in some of the gaps.

Claim #1:
"We captured the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks against our nation. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed conceived and planned the hijackings and directed the actions of the hijackers."

After September 11th, the Bush Administration had insisted that Osama Bin Laden was the mastermind behind the attacks, but announced on several occasions afterward that other members of the organization (those that had actually been captured by U.S. forces) were responsible for planning the attacks in some manner. It's clearly a fig leaf to cover the fact that Bin Laden has never been captured.

Claim #2:
"Has the Iraqi regime fully and unconditionally disarmed as required by Resolution 1441 or has it not?"

Bush remarks that this is the single question that the Inspectors need to "answer" in their report. In fact, it was the role of the Security Council, as a deliberative body, to determine if Iraq's efforts at disarmament had been acceptable. While the words "fully" and "unconditionally" may sound cut-and-dried, they are open to considerable interpretation.

2. An Excellent Summation, Sir
In slight paraphrase of something famously said of another: "Every word he speaks is a lie, even 'and' and 'the'."

3. Join the fun
I'm going to work on getting links to refute each of the lies. What we need is for somebody else to parse, for example, the SOTU and the Cincinnati Speech.

Overwhelm them with evidence, I say!
