Anybody read Stan Goff's book? |
|
I just e-mailed him. I'm really into his stuff on Counterpunch and sometimes on Truthout. Hideous Dream: The Invasion of Haiti, something like that, I think I got it wrong. Seems like a pretty rationale a sharp guy.

is awesome. He's brutal with the truth, though. He is a retired major for Special Forces, and in his years spent in the US military, he saw and heard plenty. He is now turning around to tell his side of the story.
He has written a lot about the war in Iraq which I now consider to be the blueprint for everything that's happened over there. If something new happens and I'm not sure what to think, I hurry up and find some recent article that he's written, and sure enough he ferrets out the underlying causes and motivations. (you can probably guess how he feels about Bushco).
He doesn't sugarcoat anything. Sometimes it's almost too much for me to read (like his article on Iraqi children and birth defects on CounterPunch), but if you are interested in reading the unvarnished truth, he is definitely worth reading.

The full title is "Hideous Dream: A Soldier's Memoir of the US Invasion of Haiti" I read it a year or two ago and as a fellow former soldier really enjoyed it.

Forgot to mention that in addition to his counterpunch articles he also writes a "Military Matters" column on the FRSO website : http://www.freedomroad.org/milmatters.html Some of these columns have been reprinted by counterpunch but some I think are unique to this website.

Uh cute too ;)
Excellent book. If you're interested in Haiti, let me know. I can recommend a few others. One is called "Bitter Sugar" and will have you in tears- you'll never waste sugar again.
