(RNC former chair and Miss. Gov candidate)Barbour's racist links tar Bush
Barbour's racist links tar Bush too
10/22/2003

AT THE ASIAN economic summit in Bangkok, President Bush condemned the recent anti-Jewish tirade of Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. Bush said it was ''wrong and divisive'' and ''stands squarely against what I believe.''

When Bush gets home, there is more wrong and divisive politicking he should stand squarely against: The good ol' boy antics of Haley Barbour. Barbour is the former chairman of the Republican National Committee who is running for governor of Mississippi. In mid-September Bush spoke at a fund-raiser for Barbour in Jackson, Miss., that attracted 1,100 people and raised at least $1.2 million.

snip/

Some of Barbour's roots were exposed this month when it was reported that a photo of Barbour is on the home page of the Council of Conservative Citizens, the racist group that is an offshoot of the old segregationist white citizens councils that tried to hold back the civil rights movement. The photo was taken at a county political barbecue. Barbour is pictured along with five other men, including CCC field director Bill Lord.

The CCC gained notoriety in the mid-1990s when it became known that Trent Lott, the former Senate majority leader, also from Mississippi, had spoken before it. Nothing has changed about the CCC. Its website is full of direct links to blatant racism, anti-Semitism, and homophobia.

3. Thanks...
need all the support we can get. We may have this blowhard as our governor for eight years if people don't become aware of what he really is.

5. Actually, White Citizens Council originated in Mississippi and spread
throughout the nation, not just the south.

7. What a disgusting bunch

I went to that COCC website and it gives you a vision of what the Internet would look like if we had it in the 1870s. What breaths in them? HATE HATE HATE...

Although it was swell seeing them couch themselves as the "true voice of the American Right." Hell, I want these people on TV, with their own TV shows espousing Conservatism 24/7...Come on Fox News...give em a show.

Hell, maybe Al Gore can start a network and fund them. Whatever it takes...get this stuff out there.

9. I had no idea

I thought this was just a very Conservative Group that kinda "played around" the hate/race card. I know Lott has connections to them, but I didn't think they were this blatant.

These people are EXACTLY who the KKK are today. Like Jackson said, they don't have white sheets anymore, but they are still out there.

And they dedicate tireless effort to being against the King Holiday? Martin Luther King was a shining example for this nation and if these pricks can't give one honorable black man (who gave his life for what was right-killed by a COC member likely) a smudgen of credit then that says enough.

Amazing that this type of thing plays today. I almost started clicking links on that site, but was scared I couldnt' erase it off my computer.
