I'd be shocked if this line of defense was coming from people other than a senators or congresspersons who are just coming from the floor or some meeting. This is standard spin, of course. My prediction: they'll take their cue from Blair (God, how Americans just eat up the bloke's shit). My friends, begin to be innundated with the history of Iraq's attempts to "procure uranium." This narrative will begin in 1981 (with Israel's bombing of the nuclear plant--opposed by Reagan and the repubs., embraced by the dems., by the way), go to 1991, discuss 270 tons of uranium, and then paint all opposition as naive if they think Saddam wasn't a mad man intent on acquiring nuclear material.

The "political season" stuff is cookie-cutter non-sense. But they have to have some response at this point.
