BBV: Letter to go with books pledged to congress
Now that printing looks near, I had to combine the letters submitted previously and add some of my own twists. To those news to this, quite a few DU'ers are copying Bev's book off the web for themselves and arranging to send the book to members of Congress. Some of them go straight to Congress from the publisher, so I asked for input and came up with this letter to go with the book. Input is still appreciated however, I'm not going to do too many rewrites now!

Honorable Member of Congress:

You are receiving the book: Black Box Voting: Ballot Tampering in the 21st Century, courtesy of a concerned citizen. Many in Congress will receive this book from people who encompass the whole political spectrum. These people have one thing in common- the desire for honest voting.

The enclosed book discusses the most important and critical issue of our time- honest, secure, and accountable voting. New voting systems introduce new vulnerabilities and those flaws are not addressed in the current standards or certification system. Nor will they be if that system is controlled by vested interests, as is currently the case.

Computerized systems allow potential vote fraud on a national scale- much different from traditional voting systems where fraud, if it occurred, was localized. We are asked to “trust” these new systems. When over 900 computer experts tell us we are wrong to trust a system that does not produce hard evidence of voter intent, then that advice should be heeded, above vendor and lobbyist hype.

Voter-verified paper ballots protect voter’s intent, protect voter confidence, and protect democracy. All voting systems must provide this evidence of our vote. Our vote is our contract with government.

Please read the enclosed book and discover the truth about America’s voting system and the industry that controls it. Voting belongs to the people, not private interests and government contractors.

Sincerely,

A Concerned Citizen and Voting Activist

1. sounds good to me!

but the deal with the publisher sending directly is news to me.

I have NO problem with the idea... easier for me. but how is this set up? I've ordered three copies (1 for me, 2 for the NY Senators) but as far as I know, they will be delivered to me for re-direct to Clinton and Schumer...

8. Correction and Information
Zan_of_Texas, thanks for the update on the number of scientists. I knew it was safely over 900 'cause I counted them a couple months back. And that did not include anyone who was not at least a Ph.D. candidate if they were a student.

Nostamj, no problem with you sending the books. Some of us just arranged for David to send them directly, therefore, the need for some type of letter to go with the book to explain why the heck they got it.

I would urge anyone who is sending a book to Congress via a publisher, to also email/fax/mail a letter explaining who sent it. I doubt David can get that specific with the books and include the information of who is sending them the book.

And if the congressperson has little time to read, specifically ask for a staffer who deals with elections and voting issues to read it.

Thanks for the input, I'll correct my archieved copy and probably send this off to David in the morning, just in case there is more tweaking to do.

9. might remind them
of the hundreds of respected lawyers who decried the 2000 Theft decision by Scotus. And all the real scientists not employed by poluter think tanks who warned about what is happening in global warming today. And were igored as well. Were all those experts wrong too? Or has the ostrich replaced the donkey?
