7. It is freaky... I live right smack in the middle of the fires.
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 03:02 PM by TLM

This is why living on the canyons is a bad idea.

It is like constant dusk... the sky is dark brown/orange and the sun is almost totaly blocked out.

THis is what the sun looked like yesterday at noon... looks darker today.

6. Nope... looks like the one up north was arrson...

but the ones down south were from one hunter who got lost a set a signal fire.

The fires spread fast through the canyons on the santa ana winds which gust up to 50mph, and pick up little bits of burning brush and move it a considerable distance... starting new fires.

15. Copy cat?
The first one was an accident, but some idiots likely decided to ape it and exacerbated the problem.

How many were wearing Ahhhhhhhhh-nold tee-shirts?

I lived through several fire seasons in Coloma. '93 or 94 was one of the worst - driving home from from work in Folsom looking at the mushroom clouds in the foothills wondering if this time it had gotten us. That year was arson too.

10. Anybody remember this?
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2003-07-11-alqaeda-fire_x.htm

FBI: al-Qaeda detainee spoke of fire plot
PHOENIX (AP) — The FBI alerted law enforcement agencies last month that an al-Qaeda terrorist now in detention had talked of masterminding a plot to set a series of devastating forest fires around the western United States.
Rose Davis, a spokeswoman for the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, told The Associated Press that officials there took note of the warning but didn't see a need to act further on it.
