Presidential hopeful touches on higher education
By MEAGAN BALINK Colorado Daily Campus Editor

Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean's CU address Tuesday resembled a how-to guide on destroying voter apathy in 30 minutes or less.

A crowd of 3,100 spectators listened to the former governor of Vermont from the east terrace, windows and the roof of the University Memorial Center as he swept through every issue from Korean nuclear armament to affirmative action admissions policies and back again.

Having Dean and waffles for breakfast
By ERIN WIGGINS Colorado Daily Staff

Syrupy waffles and handwritten political posters filled CU's University Memorial Center Room 245 Tuesday morning. But in contrast to a political speech being held outside the building, the theme of this event was not another Howard Dean celebration, but the first major event for Students for Kerry at CU.

The students organized a waffle breakfast to show to support for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. It was planned in conjunction with the visit of candidate Howard Dean's visit, according to the group's organizer, CU junior Jason Meininger.

About 40 people showed up for the breakfast and informational event Tuesday. The crowd began to dissipate when waffles and coffee ran low, but others remained to ask questions about Kerry's policies and discuss the recent debate on Oct. 26.

6. Students for Kerry did the same thing at the University of Wisconsin
several weeks ago Dean had a rally at U of W (Madison) that drew over 5,000 people.

Kerry supporters were busy handing out frozen waffles to a crowd numbering approximately 20 people.

11. You ruin the whole thread with the negativity....
Why didn't you just post the Kerry draws 3100 story? It's very positive. Instead, you interject Kerry bashing into it, and ruin the whole thing by creating a flame war.

17. I posted the articles together because…
if you read both of them, you'll undestand that the waffle giveaway was intentionally scheduled to coincide with the Dean rally, in an attempt to make Dean look bad.

this is not the first time Students for Kerry has done this (see: Wisconsin), and it makes them look like fools every time.

12. Pathetic...
When Dean supporters get together they do positive things for the community: canned food drives, neighborhood cleanups, writing letters and speaking with Primary voters.

From Kerry-ites we get this?

Sad...
