the "pro-lifers" DO come out strongly in cases like this. As they should.

I was watching Bill O'Leilly last month and I was baffled when I made the connection between abortion and poverty...
O'Leilly was talking about how this woman in prison shouldn't be allowed to have an abortion. And he brought up the typical repuke rhetoric - put it up for adoption, give it to family, etc, etc.
Literally 2 minutes later he was talking about how San Francisco has all these homeless people and they need to be removed, put in jail, starved to death , etc....
My point is...
These neocon scumbags talk about how EVERY life is precious and can go up for adoption, society welcomes them... but once they become homeless it's time to throw them in jail and starve them to death.
:wtf:
Can you imagine how much worse our society would be with 40 million extra homeless / poor people? They just don't think about these things.

4. It's about power, not life |
|
The anti-choice case is not about the sanctity of life any more than rape is about sex. It's all about power. At a subconcious level, anti-choice leaders are terrified by the prospect of a women being able to choose not to have their baby. They view it as a form of castration by proxy and will fight reproductive choice as if they were being chased by someone armed with a pair of pruning shears. The anti-choice movement does not object to the death penalty because executing adults does not damage the ability of an anti-choice fanatic to reproduce.

5. The pro-life movement is not The Borg... |
|
... and it is simplistic to speak of it as though it is. Many pro-lifers are also against agressive war, against the death penalty, in favor of housing the homeless, feeding the hungry, providing viable, adequately-funded alternatives to abortion, granting single mothers monthly allotments which allow them to raise their children decently, etc.--- they are called Roman Catholics, and would appreciate being acknowledged as separate from those loathsome RW creatures to whom you refer.
Thank you.

I couldn't agree more. I've heard their rantings and it fits your profile to a T.
Good post.

I am against abortion. And the death penalty. And war. To me it's a simple moral human choice. Not to take life.
Not rocket science.

11. Until we have a world where .... |
|
No woman is ever raped, no birth control ever fails even when used properly, birth control is affordable and readily available to all, nothing ever goes tragically wrong during a longed-for pregnancy, no woman ever dies or becomes severely disabled during pregnancy or childbirth, no living woman, man, or child goes without medical insurance, then we need a backup plan.
And the beauty of a backup plan is that it's there to use or not use as the woman sees fit.
Let's trust women to make the choices that are right for them.

9. Yet, isn't O'Reilly the one who pointed out the correlation between |

abortion rates and lower crime rates? I think the man has a major problem with cognitive dissonance.

Abortion is not nearly as controversial in Europe as here, even in putatively Catholic countries like Italy, France, and Spain. Did European crime rates skyrocket to eclipse our own while I wasn't paying attention? Shame on me.

12. Has she been convicted? If not, then she's been ACCUSED of murder |
|
I think that's an important point to keep straight, particularly as, according to that same article, the baby might have died (of natural causes?) before its body was discarded.

13. The sad thing is that |
|
dead babies turn up in dumpsters all the time. Sometimes they are reported in the news. Sometimes they can be connected to the mother who gave birth. Every single individual case is a tragedy, and every single individual case deserves our compassion and sympathy.
