For an unrelated reason, I was just reading up on Napoleon's invasion of Russia, the early battle victories, the melting away of the Russian troops, the burning of Moscow and the devastating retreat of the French armee, starving and harried by Cossacks through the Russian winter.
Now I am wondering if Saddam has read more military history than Rummy.
Not that I think Rumsfeld holds a candle to Bonaparte's military genius. (Maybe in his imperial ambitions.)
But the way the Iraqi army vanished, and now our troops are harassed daily--just gave me a little chill to read what the Russians did to Napoleon.

Intentional or not on Saddam's part, this is now their strategy...

The Iraqi summer may be just as nasty as the Russian Winter.
