Found Body Matches Missing UK Scientist -Police

LONDON (Reuters) - Police said the body of a man found earlier on Friday matched the description of Dr David Kelly, a former U.N. weapons inspector who became dragged into a political row over Britain's case for war against Iraq (news - web sites).

"We can confirm that the body matches the description of Dr Kelly. The body has not been formally identified," a police spokeswoman said.

Police announced they had found the body on Friday morning. Kelly went missing overnight after telling his family on Thursday he was going out for a walk.

The mild-mannered 59-year-old scientist was dragged into the political row over the case for war after the government said it thought he was the source for a BBC report that accused officials of hyping intelligence.

Kelly denied telling the broadcaster that officials had ordered dubious allegations about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to be included in a government dossier. (Reporting by Peter Graff; editing by Steve Addison)
