Zogby: Chimpy drops to 53% Approval Rate -- Lowest since 9/11
http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=721

--Bush Job Performance Slips to 53% Positive, 46% Negative; More Voters (47%) Say It's Time for Someone New Than Say He Deserves Re-election

President George W. Bush's job performance rating has slipped to 53% positive, his lowest since the terrorist attacks in 2001, according to a poll of 1,004 likely U.S. voters by Zogby International. His negative rating reached 46%, just under his pre-9/11 unfavorable of 49%.

Voters rate only President Bush's performance in the war on terrorism positively, 59% - 40%. Opinion is split on foreign policy, 49% positive compared to 50% negative. His performance on health care is rated 36% positive, 61% negative; the environment, 31% positive, 65% negative; taxes, 45% positive, 54% negative; and jobs and the economy, 33% positive, 66% negative.

For the first time, more likely voters (47%) say it's time for someone new in the White House, compared to 46% who said the President deserves to be re-elected.

1. This is very scary news.
There is little hope that he won’t do something to get those numbers up.

12. Oh no, you see . . .
Once those casualty figures from Iraq start going down, then Chimpy's approval numbers will shoot right back up. It's like trying to hold a beach ball at the bottom of the pool.

You just watch; the number of killed in Iraq just went past Dad's number from the first Gulf War, but when the number goes back below the first Gulf War numbers, then Chimpy will be right as rain. I just know it.

Okay, talking seriously now, I don't think the public is going to buy the alarmist crapola this corrupt administration has been peddling for the last 22 months for much longer. The personal attacks on administration opponents have ratcheted up, and it's possible that physical attacks might follow, but these bastards are on the run. We have to remain resolute and stay on this right to the end. Yes, there may be casualties, but think of how many thousands have already died in Iraq and Afghanistan. We won't be the first, but let's make sure that whatever additional attacks are coming, that they are the last ones.

This is not one of those stupid polls put out there by gallup, wash post, etc. This is the poll that only polls likely voters. Like I said many times I don't care what most people think I only care what voters think. And I think Bush is in big trouble. So long to those who always say he is a popular pResident. This is also Tweety's favorite pollster so this will be repeated over and over.

53% is within the margin of error, IOW, this could very well be 50%. Next month he will be below 50%, mark my words. 46% negative is astonishingly awful. Seriously troubling numbers for the Chimp...

10. A Couple of Points
Zogby used to be the favorite pollster of the right until he correctly predicted Al Gore had overtaken Bush in 00. A little noticed fact is that the "liberal" CBS News poll had got it right too. Most of the other polling organizations got it wrong.

Who will Bush atttack next?

Iran -too hard

North Korea- too hard

Syria- too obvious

Bush is between Iraq and a hard place.

If that happens then he won't be toast.

8. Bandwagon Effect
The worm has turned. On DU several times i posted re: the point as which the bandwagon numbers would jump.

We were 2% from it when the Iraq war got everybody waving the flag again! But, the rerun of the model in the third week of June predicted the fall point at 54%!

He's hit this. Finally i'll get to see if the model accurately predicts.

Barring any new adventure (or finding planted WMD's or some other dastardly fraud) my model says mid-40's by the end of August.

13. Yup, been waiting to see your model in action!
Though, now might be the time for them to "harvest" those WMD's. If they're gonna do it, nows the time...

17. That Worries Me
Not that i am that worried about the model being right or wrong (yeah, SURE i don't care), but these types of frauds will reverse the effect. That rally 'round the flag stuff is quite powerful.

15. Humpty Dumpty
I really don't believe the country will buy into another foreign war. And that's what's scary about this. We're really talking "the boy who cried wolf" here, and the outcome of that little tale was not good when the people came to ignore him. Please understand, I'm not saying it's scary that the country will refuse to go to war. I'm saying it's scary that we now have a leader the public doesn't trust on the really serious stuff. I think that mistrust will grow in the weeks and months ahead not only to the detriment of Bush politically but unfortuntely to the detriment of the national security. And the only thing that would save him would not be another phony war, but a call to arms that is ignored and then proves to be necessary. Barring that horrifying scenario, I think this is the beginning of a decidely downward trend in his numbers that all the king's horses and all the king's men...well, you know.

16. It's not scary that the public doesn't trust him
Edited on Fri Jul-18-03 01:58 PM by w4rma
It is scary about what it took for the public to not trust him.
It is scary about what he has done that would anger most Americans which hasn't been covered by the U.S. press.
It is scary to think about what he is capable of to stay in power.
It's definitely NOT scary that the public no longer trusts him, in fact its scary that only this many of the public don't trust him, it would be easier to get out of this mess if the distrust were higher.

18. Going DOWN
The numbers are only going to go down, unless they find WMDs in Iraq.

In other news 3 C-5 Galaxy Military Cargo planes departed overnight from Andrews Airforce base. Adminstration officials refused to comment about the planes' destination or cargo citing security concerns.

21. attack Iraq?
again? I don't think there is much left there to bomb. On the other hand the rest of the poll is disturbing because apparently an overwhelming majority of those asked didn't think not finding WMD was any big deal.....now THAT is problematic.

20. No Future Wars
When we have reports on morale being nonexistent, generals who basically tell the troops "The floggings will continue until morale improves" and a soldier a day who dies in this 'police action' Bush cannot muster the support for another war.

Look for a daring secret op mission that uncovers a nuclear device headed for an American port.

23. I rate my G.F. 53% positive
Bush is rated negative on every major issue
except fighting terrorism (an issue that is low-
rated in significance), and yet 53% still rate
him favorable overall. This is like if my girl
friend was a slut, couldn't cook, never washed,
had bugs, drank like a fish, spent all my money,
and hadnt had a job for ten years, but her dog
kept burglars away, so I rate her a 53%.

24. Zogby says
Pollster John Zogby: "What has been propping up the President in the past few months is his personal favorability rating. To me, what is most ominous is this alone has slipped 9 points in the past month. If he cannot count on a large majority of Americans to like him personally, this could spell doom for his re-election hopes because he has little support for his overall performance and how he is rated on the issues."
