Dean Supporters go a bit low on my campus |
|
Let me start out by saying I am not committed to a candidate. Just recently a "Students for Liebermen" groups has formed on my campus (Univ. of CT) and they put up posters advertising their meetings. Say what you want about Liebermen and I would join u a lot but these guys have every right to form their club and advertise their meetings. Apparently however the Dean group on our campus thoguht otherwise however. Because when posting fliers about their group they decided to rip down the Liebermen fleirs and put their flyers in theri place? :wtf: If they wanted to give an alternatate viewpoint, just put up their poster next to the Joe ones. If they are so convinced they are right, let people decide. In the meantime don't take away from the expression and money spent by the Liberman kids, who had spent the whole day putting up posters. In some ways this is a kind of censorship unworthy of a Democratic candidate. And in some regards it is similar to many of my experiences with Dean supporters, some of whom seem convinced that onyl those who worship him are real dems. But I don;t wish to generalize, so I will not claim this is how all, or even most, of them are. This also upsets me because these studennts are representing not only Dean and themselves, but the Democratic party and in effect me and all the other Dems. So be professional, this is a Presidential campaign, and ripping down posters is Bush League! (No pun intended.) Since Dean has a great chance of being our nominee, I hope his supporters won't be pulling tactics like this everywhere. I intend to find the head of the Dean group on campus and let him know my thoguhts. I know this is very little and I know it is Liebermen, but it's still not right.

1. A) Are you sure that's really what happened? |
|
B) Have you talked to the "Students for Dean" supporters about this? C) I would strongly disapprove of these actions, if they are true. D) There are *always* going to be people who make unwise decisions in *every* large group of people.

Also meant to respond to post #4
A) Yes, I am sure this has ahppened, I didn't "see it" but I know people who work in all these organizations and thus I know where all the Liebermen signs where and the next day they were down and all the Dean sigsn were exactly where they were. I then talked to soem other students in the Dean group who admitted it. They didn't say "we did it," but they said something along the lines of "we do what we have to." I have not talked to the leader yet so I am unaware of his involvment, if he was unaware of this I still want to ask him to keep a tighter reign oer the group.
D) Your right, it's just such a dumb move I had to rant.

2. ripping it down shows a total lack of respect |
|
and putting a Dean poster in it's place goes beyond insult to injury.
I hope that the Lieberman people have enough class not to rip the Dean posters down...but if it has a Dean picture on it they should draw a mustache, an eye patch and black out some of his teeth.

5. You should talk to the heqd of the Dean group |
|
Unless the guy is a jerk it will help matters.
Every campaign has some overzealous supporters I've not heard of this sort of thing happening elsewhere.

7. Yeah this stuff happens a lot on college campuses. |
|
I was involved in the campaigns for the A.S. at UCSB and there were some problems with people ripping down posters. It's dumb and totally wrong, but, I guess kids just get a little over-enthusiastic. You see it often enough and it just seems kind of typical.

10. I've read about other things on other blogs. |

Some of his supporters are very aggressive and rude. They remind me of Bush's rabid right-wing supporters.
They must have a handbook - the physiological warfare of campaigning. Clark had an event and they showed up handing out a list of their county co-coordinators or something to the press.
I've never really heard anything about the supporters of other candidates.

....there was Gephardt's personal campaign guys.... I'm not gonna say anything though. This has nothing to do with the candidate's really, except for how they handle it when they hear about it. But that's never the story.

not only that, their affinity for weird moustaches remind me of out and out Hitler supporters! I saw these Dean guys wearing SS jackboots one afternoon by the Quick-Check. All I wanted was a mocha caffeine type beverage, but they kept yelling at me in very German tones.

Talk to the person heading up the Dean group on campus. Ideally, he'll offer to have some of his group spend time putting up posters for the Lieberman group or otherwise helping them.

But it's actually just typos with a lack of proofreading. I tend not to proofread my posts and type them very fast. I have actually won a few awards for my writing. But no offense taken :-)

16. many of his supporters also boo other candidates |
|
at joint candidate events where Dean speaks before or after another candidate, which is another unique trait.
No, not all of them have that abrasive, rude, divisive streak. But a hell of a lot of them do. Those who act appropriatly don't deserve any admonishment for those people's actions.
However Dean(and his staff) has clearly shown no problem whatsoever withit, being the kings of cheapshots and instigations about fellow candidates.

21. Does the school have any kind of policy |
|
to cover this kind of thing? It should. Sadly, college students all too often do this kind of thing. There are several instances of students grabbing all copies of a student newspaper because of an article/editorial/advertizement inside. They seem to lack a basic understanding of the first amendment.
