Miami port prevents Greenpeace ship from docking
Miami port prevents Greenpeace ship from docking

By Associated Press

MIAMI — Port authorities barred a Greenpeace ship from docking in the port of Miami this week, saying the environmental organization's vessel posed a security problem.

Greenpeace had requested a one-week berth for the 71-meter (237-foot) Esperanza, a retrofitted Soviet navy icebreaker used to highlight its campaigns. It said it wanted to resupply the ship, change crew members and conduct onboard tours.

The request to dock originally was denied earlier this month. Juan Kuryla, an assistant port director, said port officials decided the ship poses "undue security concerns."

1. Looking for terra-ists? Check out those Greenpeace folks.
Terra-ists if I've ever seen them.

Bless the Miami authorities.

Elian's relatives and friends would be glad to appear on camera again.

Same deal as before?

This is Florida! We don't have time to figure out the logistics of protecting your ship. We've got the Everglades to drain, offshore drilling to begin and forests to cut! And, to add to all that stress, our drunken & speeding boat owners can't get from point A to point B without the motors' blades being dulled on the blasted hides of those slow moving Manatees.

Leave us be, we're busy!

5. perhaps Greenpeace...
...should start using gargantuan cruise ships, and the activists could just sun themselves on board, or use the swimming pool, while the ship was in dock....
