Bush seeks to steal economy "issue" from Democrats |
|
King George and his Court believe they already have the "war" issue in their pocket, and the only weak point in their campaign to cling to the White House and their crusade to destroy this "socialist" government, is the economy. You will notice that more and more Administration officials will comment on the positive aspects and the progress in the economy in the months ahead. If they can dilute the Democratic attacks, they feel confident that they dispose of the Democrats in the next election.
The question for the Democrats is "Should they spend most of their time defending their positions on the economy or should they attack Bush on what he thinks is his strongest suit, the war in Iraq"? If they surrender the "war" issue, the Democrats will weaken their chances to recapture the White House.
It is doubtful that Iraq, Baghdad in particular, will be stabilized by next November, if we judge the last 6 months as any barometer of progress. However, this is a tricky position for Democrats, politically speaking. Most of the country of Iraq is fairly stabilized and was really in control even before the war. The Northern and Southern sections of Iraq were never loyal to Saddam anyway. It was the central part of Iraq, Baghdad and surrounding cities, that was the power hold of Saddam Hussein. We have made little progress in those areas. It would benefit the Democrats to understand the geography of this war.

1. They have the 'war issue' in their pocket... |
|
...because there is little opposition to be seen. Democrats have seemingly moved on about Bush's* lies that drove this nation to war. Now the only question is about an 'exit strategy' and how the war is being fought.
- Clinton or Gore would have been impeached...and rightfully so...if they had lied this nation into war. This issue shouldn't have ever been dropped..leaving America to believe that the US had the right and duty to attack Iraq.

2. Bush admin will be selective with stats they use |
|
clearly though millions remain un-employed, under employed or at risk of losing employment. On top of that, we can us facts such as when you lose your job health insurance for your family is about $900/month, how the fuck do you pay for that and the mortgage let alone food! Yeah, I agree, Bush will pull out every morsel of good news from the contorted data they release. So we have to be just as diligent to find ways to explain our position.

3. I disagree... the Boosh admin. doesn't have anything but lint |
|
in their pocket.
With nearly 50% of all Americans now opposing the war, a number that is rising weekly, that issue is far from a Boosh strength- at least now. As far as the economy, they will try their smoke and mirrors tricks, but the bottom line is that people are still out of work. It can't turn around that fast, although they will spin, spin, spin.
Remember, Al Gore "lost" with a really strong economy too.
This one will go down to the wire, and we CAN win it. If it were a football game and I was an oddsmaker it would be a "pick 'em"- basically no real favorite.

4. What a sad commentary... |
|
After all the disastrous policies and decisions of this Administration, with worst job creation since Hoover, with an unpopular war, you still think it's a "pick 'em".....What does this say about America?

5. As far as the economy goes, you can put lipstick on a pig.....etc. |
|
With millions of Americans having already lost their jobs, many more working in menial fields just to get by,not counting the millions who are afraid of having their jobs cut, moved overseas, outsourced, not to mention those afraid of the declining health care system, and retirees fearful of losing all they have worked for in an Enron type scam while the architechs of their misery continue to remain free, their fortunes largely intact, this seems a shaky tactic at best. Are they waiting for their big tax breaks for billionaires to lift all boats?
Hasn't happened yet,and my four extra dollars per pay period is giving me small solace in what I see as a looming collapse of our economic system. Our economic system is in need of a dramatic overhaul and I don't know if we'll be able to vote in the people willing to take up the challenge.
At one time American business was composed of three strong links:management, labor, and the stockholders.Obviously, management now feels beholden only to the stockholders(and by stockholders I mean those with huge blocks of stock, not slim portfolios).
Yeah, they'd better do a little work(PR) on this issue. To think that they feel Iraq is their solid position is laughable;it's every bit as shaky as the economy, but I'm tired and about ranted out.
