I am so conflicted
While I know that the GDP numbers are cooked, I still find myself wishing for bad news. BUSH HAS TO GO! Someone help me. :(

1. Clinton got elected and the economy was on the upswing
people were just sick of GHW by the time of the election.

Note: I do not believe Dean is anywhere near the caliber of Clinton, so if the economy rebounds Dean is not the guy to challenge Bush.

4. I like Dean's personality.
He is one of only a handful with the charisma to capture the swing voters.

Your topic is in risk of being locked because of a minor violation of arbitrary rules.

5. You dont have to 'do' anything
They left enough 'wiggle room' that they can lock just about any topic.

7. Now I am conflicted and confused.
I should have asked what could be seen as wrong with my post. <sigh> I guess I am no good at this stuff.

9. I have no idea
what "rules" your post may have violated. It contains no profanity, or masked profanity. Which is what I have seen threads locked for lately.

I've been on this board since March 2001, and I have no idea what drdgi420 is talking about.

I see nothing wrong with your post.

And welcome to DU!

6. The people who allow us in here get to make whatever rules they want.
If you come to MY house you will follow my rules which of course are arbitrary. Don't like 'em, nobody is forcing you to be here.

10. Let me ask then,
Which rule did I break? I thought general discussion was for this type of post. Is there a vanities area? I have only been posting on this sight for about a month. I have been reading for about 2 or 3. I didn't even know this existed until back in July or so.

19. I don't see any violation of the rules. The lounge is sort of a vanity
area but your post looked fine to me. Regarding your later post, I also think the numbers are suspect...however if they are approximately correct I would attribute them to the normal jump in spending as school starts up. The next report in a week or so will be interesting.
welcome to DU! (I've been here for a couple years so I guess I've earned the right to extend it.) :D

Rules that are apparent to me, and I have been here a little bit. It seems our esteemed poster has his/her dainty undergarments in a wad for some unknown reason, hence must spread FUD.

Carry on. Yer' doin' fine.

8. Great
Great, thread after thread and comment after comment about how we (the left, democrats, etc...) are wishing for (and maybe NEED) bad economic news to improve our chances of beating Bush.

I am embarassed. Wishing economic problems on America and her citizens to improve our electoral chances is disgusting.

11. Bologna! You're just looking for some words
to spread around that the Dems want the economy and war to go bad. Lots of people out here are suffering from the horrible economy and the invasion and cute little things like this are not funny.

16. you may agree
but with what that the poster said?

You flat out wished for bad economic news to help in the defeat of Bush. You can not deny this. I do not find that acceptable. Why do you wish economic hardship upon millions of Americans?

14. Bull
go and read the GDP threads and you will find a plethora of posts by people who are upset with the improved economic figures as they see it as a direct threat against the possibility of beating Bush.

There is a contigent of posters here who are UPSET with an improving economy! Thus, they wish for a declining economy to improve our chances of beating Bush. That is something I can not, and will not ever endorse. A declining economy hurts real people. Millions of them. And to wish for, and hope for a declining economy to improve electoral chances is disgusting.

22. The economy is getting worse
Where do they get their false numbers from? That 7.2% is complete BS. 9 million + people with no job and they are trying to tell us that the economy is growing? GIVE ME A BREAK. TRUTH. that is what I want. I misspoke in my original post. I want the bad news that is reality revealed. Not that I want more bad things to happen.

25. There is...
A complete and utter disconnect between ANY economic numbers reported out of this administration and any reality that affects any human in an economic class below the 1%'ers.

When jobs are created in numbers that matter, I.E: numbers that start eroding the U6 unemployment statistics, then, and only then, will it be concedeable that the economy is truly getting better.

Until then, all this is nothing but blather. Statistics to shore up a teetering administration and gain primacy over the news cycle.

12. I am not wishing bad things to happen
Just that the bad news that is already true would be reported. The 7.2% GDP is completely fabricated. Someone needs to point that out. Nobody is focusing on all the troops dying in Iraq. Someone needs to point that out. I don't really want bad things to happen, just for the truth to come out so we can get rid of shrubbie.

20. Make up your mind
In your original post starting this thread you said...

I still find myself wishing for bad news.

And you now say...

I am not wishing bad things to happen

Well, which is it? You can't have it both ways.

26. Because I want the truth told.
What's your problem? Can't we just get along without attacking each other's intentions? I just want the FACTS, not the rosie false scenarios painted by shrub's people. I am not a person who likes bad news. I am a good news type of person. But I don't wear blinders either.

15. Ignore the GOP talking points. Here's the reality.
The reality is that all DUers want peace and prosperity for our country and our world. The reality is that the BFEE is destroying that peace and prosperity while they are creating the ILLUSION that the we have it.

It may seem that we are hoping for a bad economy when in truth we are simply hoping that the ugly reality of what is happening will be revealed.

Ordinary Americans are losing their jobs, losing their health care, working more hours with less government protection, and living with incredible work-related stress while the wealthiest Americans are growing more wealthy and powerful by the minute.

17. Trust What You Know
It's not necessary to hope for bad news. Think of what you know about the Shrub. Do you think he's suddenly going to become smarter or more competent? Certainly not. Six months ago we couldn't have predicted the Palme leak, more voilence in Iraq (well maybe), the request for $87B in war funds, the numerous gaffs and "misstatements." Yet, sure enough, they came.

There will be others -- count on it.

23. Here's my take...
I wish the economy were going to rebound, because I own my own business and I need it to. But, looking at the policies of these guys, I just have no confidence that it will work. It just doesn't make any sense, and many economists agree.

IF the economy were to some how miraculously rebound, Bush will get the credit whether he deserves it or not, and we will just have to do the best we can to make other issues important enough to compete for voters attention.

But chances are the economy will not rebound.
-No end to war in sight,
-huge deficits,
-more tax cuts,
-offshore companies paying no taxes,
-no international help on Iraq reconstruction
-property taxes going up everywhere to fund basic services
-jobs continue to migrate overseas

31. Just this morning I saw...
a man standing next to the freeway, with a sign begging for money. I'm sure you all have seen a lot of such people lately.

Forget the stupid numbers blaring from the boob tube. Just take a look at the people on the street, at the cities and neighborhoods, and at your retirement portfolio...and tell me whether things are better than they were four years ago.

Democrats, as a whole, don't go around looking for bad news. There's plenty in front of us already.
