Halliburton -something NEW
Edited on Thu Oct-30-03 02:41 PM by Capn Sunshine
The problem with companies like Halliburton is they are SO greedy, SO vile in their gouging, that it's not even covered as "news" any more.

As of Oct. 19, Halliburton had imported 61.3 million gallons of gasoline from Kuwait into Iraq, and the company was paid $162.5 million for an average price of $2.65 a gallon.

That's right: the company charged with getting the refineries running again is charging the US Gov't 2.65 a gallon for gas.

But WAIT! There's more! Uncovered anywhere except for about 15 seconds yesterday afternoon on an analysts conference call was this announcement:

Haliburton will not provide "Guidance" for the next fiscal year.
Haliburton's Fiscal Year ends Oct. 30 if I recall. They will not be announcing to the market their profit forecasts. See the pattern here ?

What happens the Tuesday following the end of Haliburtons coming fiscal year? Yeah, baby. ELECTION. * , facing questions from all sides, even within his party. Do you think Halliburton is going to announce record windfall huge ass profits from the Iraq war (where's the 4 billion dollars?)in THAT environment?

Far be it from me to ascribe ulterior motives to this behavior, but it seems slightly motivated and eerily similar to the secretive manipulations of the White House organization taken as a whole. Is it coincidence that the White Houses practices and actions would resemble the corporate behavior of Dick Cheney's former company?

Yet it would seem by the muted reaction to the theft of billions of dollars in Iraq and the profiteering undertaken by the no bid contract holders there, that this will be par for what they hope will be a very long course.

2. Is that legal? They don't have to file a SEC report or anything?
What are they required to do?

4. Who cares if it's legal.
A better question is:

Who will stop them.

The Bush Administration?
The Media?
Congress?
The Republicans?
The Democrats?

Who?

6. it's legal to announce you won't give guidance
its foolhardy as many stockholders might sell without transparency. Except in this case , that isn't happenening. Hmmmmmmmm

They still must file all legal reporting and paperwork.

8. It's possible to look up their filings at the SEC, right?
Would there be any point to that? Don't they have to do some projections in those filings?

3. Analysts?
A lot of companies have stopped making forecasts, but isn't it likely that some analysts will continue to do so?
