Rerun of House Fight on Police State Tonight on C-Span
C-Span says it will be rerun at 8 o'clock eastern and that it was unusual for House to be shown again. Don't miss it!

No one should remain unaware of this battle.

This is what we need to see. :toast:

It is this attitude and our response to it that can overcome the Bush Regime: It's the backbone, stupid!

Is this the Repuke committee chairman calling the cops on the Dems? I just read about that; it's atrocious.

what Rep. Thomas did but it failed. It's a MUST WATCH.

8. Yes and it's just the tip of the iceburg
The repubs have been running roughshod over the dems but today was the kicker.

Today the repubs sent the Capitol police to remove the dems from a room where they were meeting about a bill they had been given no time to read.

3 times Rangle told them: We aren't leaving, what are you going to do? They kept coming back until finally the Sgt of Arms realized they had no jurisdiction over the situation.

Pelosi was livid- filed a resolution which I never got to see about the behavior and it is VERY good this coverage is being repeated. I RECOMMEND it. No one will know how bad off we are if we don't get this story out.- The media is already screwing it up because the pubs have thrown a red herring into the mix.

Must see TV because: It's the backbone, stupid ;-)

14. Rep. Thomas called the Capitol police on the Dems
(in the middle of the night) on his committee because they were having a meeting in another room. The GOP is trying to say that he called the cops on Rep. Stark for threatening a Colorado GOP Rep. on the committee. Stark called the guy a "little fruitcake."

The cable stations are giving it #2 coverage after the Kobe story.

If things really get hot between liberals and conservatives, I wonder if we'll ever see scuffles on the House of Representatives. It all reminds me of the Taiwanese parliament or Russia's Duma. Anybody ever seen those scuffles on TV?

18. The thread that says "turn on c-span now!!!!!!!!!" has a
play by play on what happened, people were watching while the melee was taking place. I came in when it was almost over and got to watch the press conference afterward, I started a thread "all hell just broke loose in the house" it's worth checking out too because people posted links to stories in the NY Times and in the Post that are worth reading, although the more sympathetic of the two (the post story) doesn't give the dems enough credit for just trying to do their freaking jobs and read a bill they were about to vote on. (Shoot, it wasn't even the 200 page bill, it was the 91 page substitute that the pukes agreed to read.)

25. Everyone acted badly
Pelosi never should have made this resoulution today. The facts still aren't clear and she should have waited until next week when people got to hear what the Capitol police had to say. Also, it remains unclear if Thomas called the police to the committee room or to the library. The Dems say they showed up at the library but the republicans say that the police were called because Stark was threatening McGinnis in the committee room. I think that everyone in the House should be ashamed that this is what they are debating and not policy.

Also, this really isn't the best advertisement for democracy. We are going to places like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Liberia and saying they should have democracy. They are probably seeing this and saying, "If this is what democracy is all about, then I don't want it."

28. The facts still aren't known
People still don't know who called the police, where the police were told to go, and what really was discussed between Pete Stark and the Republicans. The Republicans claim that Stark just left and then the Republicans voted on the bill. Well, the Democrats can't just walk out of the committee and then expect the Republicans not to do anything. Also, if Thomas called the police to kick the Democrats out of the library than that is wrong, but that isn't known. This belongs in the ethics committee where they can interview members of the capitol police, the sergeant-at-arms, and members of the Ways and Means committee staff.

Pete Stark, Bill Thomas, and Scott McGinnis all acted improperly in that commitee room. This committee is perhaps the most powerful committee in the House and it has worked on the three most important bills this year: tax cut, prescription drugs, and child tax credit. However, partisanship is on both sides and it has hurt the process to get bills through and achieve good legislation. This battle will only elevate the partisanship and hurt future legislation and therefore hurt the country.

GIVE BACK IN SPADES WHAT THEY HAVE GIVEN US FOR OVER 2 DECADES!

27. Gee- do you remember a simple thing like the Patriot Act,
that passed because it was rushed through and nobody read it?

They have pulled this s*** of sneaking in a bill at the last minute and then having it passed without even discussing it throught the committee, then ramming it through the House.

Are they not entitled to have it read in its entirety if they have not have not had a chance to read it?

39. This is my second
viewing, so I am ahead of you.

Are you not aware that the proceedings in Congress are recorded w/the time sequence?

In addition, police also record the time.

It was quite clear to me that the phone call to the police was made before the exchange between Rep. Pete Stark and McInnis.

Moreover, the police went to the library where the Dems were in discussion, not to the hearing room where Rep. Stark called the weeny the "F" word - fruitcake. lol

43. This whole episode is disgusting.
The United States House of Representatives is the very heart of American Democracy. The Republicans want to run it like a private club. A very private club. Without any "wrong thinking" people, or any "different" people, or any people who don't kiss their ass.

The Democrats have finally stood up to complain - which is what they should have done YEARS ago. They should be raising hell at every move by the GOP.
