31. Does anybody watch C-Span in the first place?
I don't think it matters whether Pilosi's statements are on at 11 PM or during prime time, only people who actually care about politics watch C-Span therefore her remarks aren't going to reach anybody that's indifferent and make them turn against Bush.

Edited on Thu Oct-30-03 11:01 PM by Gloria
crew to read into the record about the Iraq war...she's talking about the funding requests now.

Since no debate is allowed, they resort to this...sad, isn't it"
By the way, the Medicare bill in conference now....no Dems are being allowed in on that either!!

So much for representative government!!

10. several things
First it is 8pm in her district. That means her constituents are awake and listening.

Second, is this a special order? That would explain the late hour and the sparse attendence. BTW those are widely credited with putting a certain Newt Ginrich on the map in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Just because Ginrich is evil doesn't mean he is stupid.

You're not nuts
The House Repukes have a tendency to push through legislation in the middle of the night.

H.R. 3289:
making emergency supplemental appropriations for defense and for the reconstruction of Iraq and Afghanistan for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2004, and for other purposes

10:30 P.M. -
DEBATE - The House proceeded with one hour of debate on the conference report to accompany H.R. 3289.
Mr. Young (FL) brought up conference report H. Rept. 108-337 for consideration under the provisions of H. Res. 424.

Vote took FOREVER because it was such a close vote but Tom DeLay had to do some negotiating (err blackmailing) for it to pass.

21. Pilosi debates late at night and says that...
The GOP leadership wants it like that so that people aren't awake to see it. I'm not sure how the scheduling works in the house so I don't know why it happens exactly. One thing I'm pretty sure of though, is that Tom DeLay is at home asleep.

27. I would assume
this is just another Midnight Dem session. These have been going on for quite a while. The Dems do this to get their comments on the record.

It is during these sessions that you get to see how the Dems really feel about issues.
