The completely unscientific Vegas blackjack Bush poll
Just got back from Vegas and when possible, segued the blackjack table conversation to politics and Bush. Can happily report that I ran into not ONE supporter. Really - was quite amazing.

My fave was a retired military guy who actually introduced Bush into the conversation by saying "I'm sure as hell glad I didn't have to serve under the current asshole." I called to a friend, "Hey, we got a Bush-hater here" and then, thinking maybe I'd put words in his mouth I said, "Well, maybe not a Bush-hater, but he. . ." at which point he interrupted me and said, "No, no, that pretty well sums it up." Upon further conversation I discovered that he was a lifelong independent, leaning Republican, but was mortified by the carrier landing and totally convinced that we had been lied to, the military were being used and abused and he said he kept up with his buddies and it was pretty much the universal opinion.

Almost made up for not winning at the tables!

2. I would imagine
that a lot of veterans, who took their service to this country seriously, were put off by Bush's aircraft carrier strut.

People are starting to see through this guy (finally).

3. one begins to wonder...
...if there isn't room for an "American" party-- free of the rightwing baggage such a name might once have carried -- that wants the boy-prince the hell out of office, and the Old Republic restored...

which is to say, agreement to disagree on some cultural issues, but a larger allegiance to wanting our country back from the smirky plutocrats who've stolen it...
