Help me out here about "spitting on vietnam vets"

Are there any links out there that prove its an urban legend? My mother insists that it did happen as the legends say, and since she was alive then and I wasn't, I'm hesitant to argue...

1. Urban legend, or

possibly isolated incident. They did not return to glory, but neither did they return to saliva.

Spitting occured, but not to the massive extent claimed by Nixonites.

it may not have been visited upon every one of them but it happened many times. And it it wasn't saliva there were the taunts, the looks and problems getting jobs and problems on the job.

It was real enough around here.

3. You have to understand

a lot of that was urban legend. AND the Vietnam War was a long war with 365 day rotations. So every month vets were returning home. And yes there were no parades BUT that went with the TYPE of war and the rotation.

Been there, done that and only got a little medal.

5. I remember seeing film of it happening

So it did happen at least once.

It was not a common occurence.

The shame of the way America treated returning American vets was the way we ignored them, did not honor them for their service and collectively never helped them to reach cluser on their experience.
