Protests and Morale
I have a question to ask...another site that I go to...there is a discussion going on about all the protesting going on about the war in Iraq...some righties are saying that because we choose to protest the war that we are the one's bringing down troop morale...

I don't see how that's possible...

My argument is that the protests about the war are over bad foriegn policy from this administration...they say that what I am saying is hogwash...

What about being over extended when once promised to be sent home...what about not having equipment like kevlar vests for our troops...what about being in a war situation where the administration that put you there can't prove why it was important to go to war in the first place...what about young men and women who see friends and fellow soldiers getting killed and some people in this country see it as no big deal...

any thoughts...?

1. Its a veiled accusation
that dissent is unpatriotic (when its their war). They use it all the time.

2. Given that the troops only get Fox and right wing news...
they don't even know about the protests so how can it demoralize them?

This is nothing but a desperate attempt on the part of the truly pathetic, to rationalize the true reason for the low morale of the troops, Bush and his cabals willingness to use them as cannon fodder for their corporate buddies.

4. here's just an example...
This what was said when I made a statement about protests being about policy...

(snip)
I do understand POLICY. The morale is low because our troops "hear and see" about the anti-war protesting in their country. This causes the low morale...it's really not that difficult to figure out...

5. but they don't see and hear, the right wing doesn't cover the protests...
most of the troops are just trying to stay alive, from everything I have read.

3. morale
It is well-nigh impossible to change the mind of a freeper. They truly have been brainwashed. Their small minds can only hold so much and the propagandists have already gotten to them. I really pity them because they can be led by the nose. They just don't realize they will go down with the country with the rest of us if this administration stays in office. They don't know the true meaning of patriotism.

6. Assholes are always concerned about the ends...
they think any means at all is okay if it gets the ends you want. But means need to be considered morally also. Protesting murder is a good idea. Even if it makes murderers feel bad.

8. see what I mean...
just posted on that other site...this guy has issues with me personally...

"Anti-war protesting has nothing to do with troops..."

ARE YOU SERIOUS OR STUPID?

The best example is our TROOPS who made it home alive from Vietnam. Who spit on them? Was it the Pro War movement? Was it the Women's Knitting Club? Was it the local mens basketball team at church?

WHO WAS IT IMAX? WHO SPIT AND CALLED OUR TROOPS NAMES WHEN THEY RETURNED FROM VIETNAM? ANY IDEAS?

Before you answer me, allow me to restate your statement...

"Anti-war protesting has nothing to do with troops..."

Anti War protesters spat and called our TROOPS names because they did what was asked of them. Did they kill children? Unfortunately, its a fact of war, they did. Did they kill women? Again, sure...fact of war.

But when the soldiers finally made it home alive, who welcomed them besides their beloved? ANTI WAR PROTESTERS..throwing bottles, trash and hurling insults at them.

AND YOU WANT TO SAY THAT ANTI WAR PROTESTERS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH TROOPS? Sheesh!

Secondly, if you were in battle and you heard the news about Americans being upset because you are doing your job, that would not affect you at all? I KNOW YOUR NOT SUPERMAN...it has to affect each and every soldier in somehow.

HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TROOPS? I'll know when you pull your head out of mojo's butt...I'll hear the sonic boom all the way in EAST MESA!
(end quote)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You see what I have to put up with...just because I say that "anti-war protests" have nothing to do with troop morale...!!!
