Hanging out, hanging on - underaged prostitutes in Vancouver

Reporter Amy O'Brian and columnist Daphne Bramham take a hard look at the growing problem of youth prostitution, homelessness and drug abuse.

Each week, a large group of youth workers and police officers crowds into a small office on the Downtown Eastside to try to save the lives of children.

Each week, these kids fall deeper into their addictions, are used again by their pimps, are hit again by a john or have lost another bed at a group home or safe house.

Quite tragic. It's amazing in a "civilized world" young people have to do this.

1. Prostitution is big business in Vancouver

I've heard it called the Sin City of the north.

Prositution is legal and licensed in Vancouver.

Of course underaged prostitution is illegal (as it should be)

I'm not sure that it is in fact legal and licensed though, I've never looked into it.

3. I was in Vancouver a couple months ago

on a short vacation. While checking out a motel, I saw a young woman approaching me, she was wearing a low cut shirt. She was obviously a prostitute, looking for business. She may well have been underage.

4. What the hell is happening in Vancouver?

Kids attacking a man who reprimanded them for throwing stones at ducklings, a 14 yr old dead from heart failure after running from boys throwing firecrackers at him and now this? Vancouver WAS a beautiful city :wtf: is going on there?
