1. Full quote
"I don't want to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks," Gephardt said in a statement. "I will win the Democratic nomination because I will be the candidate for guys with American flags in their pickup trucks."

11. A lot of folks that are still flying the flag in their vehicles
also support the war and Bush. I am glad that Gep clarified that! Gep is still proud of his moment of glory. As long as Gep remains unrepentant, I will continue to remind the readers of this:

President, House Leadership Agree on Iraq Resolution

President George W. Bush along with bipartisan leaders from the House and Senate announced the Joint Resolution to authorize the use of the United States Armed Forces against Iraq. "The statement of support from the Congress will show to friend and enemy alike the resolve of the United States," President Bush said during the announcement in the Rose Garden, Wednesday, October 2, 2002. 12. In the South, he'd be hard-pressed to find many without both
NOW who's practicing divisiveness? and diving straight into wedge politics ahead of schedule, helping out the Repugs for all he's worth? Sheesh.

I never thought in my lifetime I'd be defending the Confederate flag, but for a lot of people in the South, it's not first and foremost about racism. For too many it is. The REST of Dean's message is: and you've been voting for Republicans for decades now, and how much good has it done you? JOIN us again. We're on your side because of the economy, jobs, raises, schools....

Wht saddens me is that -- whether by design or through inattention and cynicism -- people aren't hearing the unifying message Dean is trying to get across. He's trying to BRIDGE that gap the "Southern Strategy" put between us and The People of the South. Essentially, it's a populist message that I think could work here.

Frankly, I'd rather he not use the Confederate Flag in his speeches too, but he has for some while now, and he doesn't use it as "code words" for racism but to accomplish quite the opposite.

4. I really didn't want a Confederate Flag debate in the Primary.
This absolutely SUCKS. Take one of the most divise issues in American History, the Civil War, and drag it front and center to the middle of the Democratic Primary, right when we're trying to bring down an Unelected Emporer. Brilliant. Karl Rove must be singing himself to sleep with "Dixie".

The only way out of this is to ask BUSH about the Confederate Flag. But, that takes away attention from issues that MATTER, like the CIA, the war, Peak Oil, and Imperialism.

10. 2 tru - This is going to take time away
from the candidates ability to respond to issues where we can beat repugs. We know we will beat them on this issue so it shouldn't take the focus away from their positions on issues that will decide the 2004

5. it seems that all of them are trying to lose the Presidential
election for the Democratic Party.

They (Southerners) have a different way of life than I do and I understand that...I wonder why they can't understand that.

It seems that we do have a bunch of losers competing for the nomination.

6. Amen
How does not wanting to be the candidate folks with rebel flags on their trucks plan to support imply him not wanting to represent them if he becomes President?

8. Gep is just being targeted because he may have attacked Dean about this
Edited on Sat Nov-01-03 06:45 PM by JohnKleeb
or it could be his attacks of Dean in the past. Fighting fire with fire as the old proverb says holds true I guess. BTW just my point, I dont care really just sitting here "watching the wheels go round and round" heh ok I stole that from a Lennon song.
