KY and MS Governorships
Edited on Sat Nov-01-03 07:21 PM by jiacinto
Any final polls?

Does anyone here know what GOTV efforts our campaigns in those states have?

1. Don't know about Kentucky but
Musgrove doing ok in this poll: http://www.clarionledger.com/news/0311/01/m03.html

I like this quote:

While he's disappointed that Musgrove hasn't done enough to fix the rural roads he must travel, Stanford isn't ready to vote for Barbour.

"I don't see how Republicans, like President Bush, have done anything to help the economy," Steve Stanford said.

5. What is the complex system of elections in MS
I've heard that if neither gets 50% the legislature decides.

8. It was part of a post Reconstruction constitution
There is a clause that if no candidate gets over half the vote then the legislature gets to decide. It was put in there to prevent two whites from running and splitting the vote alowing a black to win in a three way race.

13. cry me a river
that would be so funny. Those racist scumbags of the post reconstruction era screwing a racist at the turn of the 21st century. Truely deserved on so many levels.

12. Bad news on this poll
The poll said registered voters with 3.5 margin of error. We always do better with registered voters than with likely voters. This is something our press does to create support for our candidates and to make the R's run scared. A poll like this usually equates to a final result of 53% R 47% D. BUT DON'T GIVE UP!!! Past performance is no guarantee for future results.

2. In Kentucky
Looks like Chandler's running behind in the polls, but I don't know how far behind. Here's the Louisville Courier-Journal page devoted to the campaign, if you want to read up on the latest yourself:

http://www.courierjournal.com/cjextra/2003projects/govsrace/index.html

My guess is Fletcher will win. He's framed it as a campaign against the scandal-ridden current governor instead of the guy who's actually running against him. That works well in this part of the country -- as we all know, all Democrats are sex fiends, and your sexual mores naturally determine how well you can govern </sarcasm>.

6. Shrubster was in KY today
He flew into London KY. Here in Richmond Chandler has a lot of support. I got phone polled for a local TV station last week. Fletcher is ahead according to statewide polls, but the one that counts is Tuesday, and I am voting straight Dem ticket.

10. Not sure what you mean by
downballot... We have races for secretary of treasury, attorney general, agriculture, and several others, and maybe some judges.

14. Hood looks good in MS.
Actually he looks ok, but that don't rhyme, and is less optimistic.

3. Carlos, do u by any chance work in politics?
I am only asking because you are one of the few on this site who take an interest in the nuts and bolts of strategy and elections? You also seem to know ur stuff about the upcoming elections. So do you work in politics and if so, what do you do? I myself love straetgy and want to work in polititcs.

4. I volunteered for a few candidates
Did work for a non-profit here for a few weeks. However, I am not a "professional political consultant".
