The Media Tide is Turning
This is just my opinion, or moreso, just my intuition. Like the rest of America, the media has been lied to and used by this Administration. They are useful as propagandist tools and nothing else. For example, if they refuse to give us the white-washed myth about Ronald Reagan, then they are attacked by the conservative right-wing.

But I sense the media are waking up and there will be a dramatic change in the ways they report upon this Administration. Perhaps it is only wishful thinking? Perhaps it is out of necessity? God knows our nation needs a conscious free press.

George Bush and his supporters are all smiles today. They feel their mission is fait accompli. However, their worst fear is that the truth will win out. Their allies are secrecy and shadows. The only ones that can expose the secrecy and shine light on the shadows are the media. I see a light coming thru the tunnel. Let us hope it is not a train.

1. My self-described Bushbot brother...
...admitted this evening that the no-bid contracts and shameful treatment of soldiers has been giving him pause. Bush is such a fraud, even his staunchest supporters admit that their confidence is less than optimal when they are being honest...

12. From a republican friend
of mine, he sent me a harshly toned email the other day complaining about Haliburton's profiteering on the war...

I don't know if it's enough for him to vote Democratic, but I mentioned that Howard Dean was more pro-NRA than most Democrats and seems to be a fiscally sound in balancing budgets (PS, I'm not a Dean guy, just wanted to see if he knew about Dean - my friend's a New England Republican - moderate on most social issues, but a big 2nd Amendment guy)

2. Don't count on it. They're bringing Bush down now so they can bring him
up later.

Do not count on the media to do anything other than whore for Bush.

13. I get that feeling sometimes, too
Unlike Poppy Bush, Bush junior bought a quarter or two of good economic news with his 'trillion dollar swing in the budget deficit' tax cut (huge surplus to huge deficit)... so, after 2 years of bad news, anything positive is going to look like a great triumph.

3. lets get this straight....
THE ONLY REASON THIS MEDIA WILL GO AGAINST BUSH IS BECAUSE THEY FEAR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL TURN ON THEM....

if things were going well with bush...they would be right their with him....and in fact still are if things go that way....

end of story....

5. No. Because they have gone over the line and turned on the media...
Like I said, this is only my intuition. But is is always darkest just before the dawn.

4. Did you REALLY mean to say this?
"God knows our nation needs a conscious free press."

Funny how 'little hyphenation marks and misspellings' can make ALL the difference in meaning:

conscious-free = free of conscience; having no conscience

VS

Conscious, free = being 'awake' (conscious), free

-----------

This reminds me of my favorite line from the movie, "The Last Emperor" which is, 'if you can't say what you mean, you can't mean what you say'.

9. "Free press" is a common expression...
for what we think we have in this country. To have a conscious "free press" is to have one that is awakened from an unconsciousness.

6. ah, but! i have friends in the monolithic liberal media...
...guys with a couple of the big outfits.
...they promise many interesting things in the next couple of months....the parallels to watergate seem to be emerging: lies, an obsession with leaks, a further obsession with revenge, and cover-ups....Bush and his immediate circle are not smart enough to keep all these plates spinning in the air much longer....who would you say is smarter, Bush or Nixon....Nixon won re-election with a landslide (in a tainted election, I concede....and within 18 months things were crashing down around him; his closest aides were on their way to prison and the disgrace surrounding him was about to drown his administration.

Patience. Once in a great while, when the country really needs it to do so, the press does its job. Print will lead broadcast to the promised land, of course.

8. Perhaps the 46% of the Americans that see Iraq as being ok,
might disagree with you. 500 dead ok. 2500 wounded ok. Who killed Laci Petersen leads.

10. kentuck, I also see a FEW signs of life
but just a FEW compared with the bu$h lovefest that continues to play out on the TV Nets. Caught some thoughtful comments, for instance, in a recent Newsweek, but US News & World Report continues to toe the Regime line. Likewise, some newspapers seem to be waking up and others remain stubbornly comatose.

The few signs that I am seeing are in the PRINT realm. What we need is another Cronkite Moment. I believe it was back in '68 when Uncle Walter came into our living rooms and told us "the war is unwinnable," wasn't it? (He was, of course, referring to the FIRST Viet Nam.)

What truly bothers me is that bu$h continues to kick his loyal lapdog media and the whore/hounds just roll over and beg for more. Of course, they can't very well stand up and say "It's not fair! We've been shilling for you non-stop since Gore declared his candidacy," now can they?

Here's to your intuition, kentuck! May it be correct again.

"Falujah = MOAB"

"If the dems try to exploit this to weaken our resolve, then they will have proven themselves to be actual enemies of this country."

"Its time to obliterate Fallujah and its inhabitants."

"13 US Soldiers dead....it's time to leave that hell hole...I don't care what Bush says...."

your light at the end of the long media tunnel scenario, I get too disillusioned when I do. The media has failed this country miseribly, they rank right up there with the bush cabal with their duplicity and deceit.
I want them to explain to me how you can have a war and never see a body, why they're not railing against the administration in daily editorials about the siezure of their journalists film and notes. Ever notice that any valuable footage worth watching is hijacked from Al Jazeera, what's up with that?
bushco has tweeked the nose of the most powerful organization in the world, the CIA with no measurable results. I have no idea what will turn the tides of this neverending spittle of disinformation we're being spoonfed by the media, but somebody needs to step up and speak out soon.
