Many Prominent Black Americans Support Howard Dean for President
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 12:44 PM by mzmolly
I've noted a few here.

Christopher Edley, Jr. ~ Senior Advisor to Dean Campaign, Law Professor, Co-Director of Harvard Civil Rights Project

Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. ~ Congressman, House Appropriations Committee

Major Owens U.S. ~ Congressman

Marianne Spraggins ~ DNC Member

Whoopi Goldberg ~ Entertainer

More information below.

With all the talk of Dean having an 'anti-black' agenda, I thought this information noteworthy.

2. Nobody's saying he's anti-black. They're just saying they don't think he..
...has the best chat on race.

Which I think is undeniable. I don't think Kerry does either, and Kwasi Mfume and many other black leaders support him.

Nobody's arguing that there's one monolithic attitude of Americans towards politics either, by the way.

5. Sharpton is saying Dean is 'anti-black'
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 01:08 PM by mzmolly
He said Jesse Jackson Jr. shouldn't support a man with an anti-black agenda.

BTW, I didn't know Kerry was your candidate, I thought Edwards was?

6. quote from Dean on the site
"I want people with confederate flags on their trucks to put down those flags and vote Democratic--because the need for quality healthcare, jobs, and a good education knows no racial boundaries. We have working white families in the south voting for tax cuts for the richest 1% while their children remain with no health care. The dividing of working people by race has been a cornerstone of Republican politics for the last three decades--starting with Richard Nixon. For my fellow Democratic opponents to sink to this level is really tragic. The only way we're going to beat George Bush is if southern white working families and African American working families come together under the Democratic tent, as they did under FDR."

10. Bull, it's what Deans been saying since he entered the race.
The spin is what was 'reported' yesterday.

Here is a copy of the speech he gave in February at the DNC

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/onpolitics/transcripts/dean_022103.html

"I intend to talk about race during this election in the South because the Republicans have been talking about it since 1968 in order to divide us. And I'm going to bring us together. Because you know what? You know what? White folks in the South who drive pickup trucks with Confederate flag decals in the back ought to be voting with us and not them, because their kids don't have health insurance either and their kids need better schools too." (APPLAUSE) ~ Howard Dean - February 21, 2003

Amazingly he was applauded.

9. Really? Wonder how they will like sharing their party with
the lowest element of the south to whom Dean appealed this week?
