A whole mess of lemons....
And many seem to be turning DU'ers sour. First of all, there was the "good news" about the economy and 7.2% growth in GDP for the last quarter. This deflated a lot of Democratic hopes to run on the economy in the next election. Of course, DU'ers - like the rest of the Democratic Party, are divided on the war in Iraq. So what do we do? We turn on each other and start looking for deficiencies in our own candidates. Rather than try to make some lemonade, we keep on sucking on those sour lemons.

Realistically, the economy is not going to continue to grow at a 7% growth rate. And even if it does, is it going to produce any jobs? That is the real issue. It doesn't matter how they spin the GDP if people continue to lose their jobs. So, suffice it to say, George W Bush still has a big problem with the economy that GDP numbers cannot gloss over.

As for the war in Iraq, we have no choice but to oppose it. Why? Because George W Bush has made it a political issue. Remember when they were going to bring out their "product" after Labor Day and run the campaign in 2002 on the war. They plan on doing the same thing in 2004. They have made it a political issue - not the Democrats. If we agree with their spin on the war, we may as well swear Bush in tomorrow.

However, the manner in which we oppose it will determine our success in stopping Bush from using it as a political issue. Democrats would prefer it not be a political issue but that is not going to happen. So we have no choice but to point out the failures and deficiencies in this war, and we should do it often. But we have to do it without permitting the Repubs to paint us as "unpatriotic". That is the challenge but one that must be met. Otherwise, we will be sucking on lemons a long time.

2. LA81....thanks for being in touch with reality...
:) Sometimes we need to understand why we are feeling such a way and why we say some of the things we say. I think some DU'ers might be just a little demoralized...
