No light at the end of this tunnel, George - By Eric Margolis
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 05:09 PM by Spazito
Watching the recent storm of car bombs, rockets, and gunfire in central Iraq gave me nasty memories of the January, 1968 Tet offensive in Vietnam.

<snip>

Bush, of course, has never been in touch with reality when it comes to Iraq. Just recall his preposterous claim about Iraqi uranium, "drones of death" and "vans of death," links to al-Qaida, the imminent threat of mass destruction to the U.S., etc., etc.

VP Dick Cheney, who appears to be running Mideast policy, claimed Iraq had deployed nuclear weapons that threatened the U.S. He maintains such absurdities though absolutely nothing was found after a five-month, $300-million search. The rarely-seen Cheney sounds increasingly like Mad King Ludwig of Bavaria.

Poor Colin Powell, now demoted to TV talk show guest, disgraced himself before the world at the UN by his lurid, nonsensical claims about Iraq.

more, much more

( I LOVE the "Mad King Ludwig of Bavaria" reference to Cheney!)

1. I feel sorry for Powell
He is literally treated as a subordinate Bush's administration. If anything, he was probably against this war in the first place and was coalesced into it.

Wasn't he against the first gulf war? I remember he was trying to seek a compromise on it, but Bush I didn't want any of it.

However, he had a choice. He either could have left the administration or stayed course. He chose to stay the course and blew wild interpretatinos of intelligence in front of the world body. He was the poster boy for this administration. I don't think he realizes how much power he actually yields. Without him, this administration would be crap. I only wonder if he realizes that himself.

5. Fuck Powell
He had a chance to preserve his integrity and he blew it. He helped them make a case for invasion before the UN and he's told as many lies as the rest of the bastards. He can burn in hell too for all I care.

2. Yeah, mad King Ludwig line is great--however, Ludwing did some good-
--all those wonderful castles throughout Bavaria.

Cheney has not done one single decent thing in his entire, worthless life!

3. Margolis is always right on the money!....
If only the American public had been privy to his writing from before this war started, there might not be a war...Who knows...they might have risen up in protest if they knew the truth...The fact that he's an American himself and served in Viet Nam is also a plus....
